I am leaning towards Settlers 6 to avoid the DRM of 7.

Would love to hear any opinions of those that have played both.

I have both. And I enjoy both. The DRM for Settlers 7 can be potentially quite annoying but in my experience it has gone completely unnoticed. Gameplay for the two games, although fairly simelar, is mostly different. I prefer 7 but 6 is still quite enjoyable.

I really didn't much care for Settlers 7 all that much.  By the time that I stopped playing it, I was feeling it was more trying to be a psuedo RTS game but wasn't quite there.  I always felt mad rushed in Settlers 7 and never much felt like I was building a city of any sort, more just a base of operations.

Settlers 6 on the other hand I enjoyed very much and still play it from time to time, with it's editor it was given a way to keep living on, where as  with 7... well.... you know I'm sure.

Well it sounds like Settlers 6 is more to my taste.  I don't like feeling rushed and the Victory Point System in 7 had me concerned about being rushed.

CB, if you had to choose between Settlers 6 and Grand Ages Rome which one would you recommend ?

Honestly, I don't think I could choose between one or the other, I'd have to get both as I think they're both pretty decent games, however I'd likely get it in the order of GAR and then Settlers 6, just since GAR is a newer game if I could only afford one at a time.

I concur w/ CB that Grand Ages Rome would be the way to go if you can grab it...from a builder standpoint, it's much better and you can really set a slower pace particuarly in the freebuild maps...

pat!
