I humbly suggest CB could consolidate the T3 and AP boards into a T3 Gold board. That might save a little confusion about where to post - if nothing in coding complexity for maintaining the boards.

Best regards, CK

BitterJester (Nov 3): "Help! Activation Key does not work on brand new game!
"I just bought Tropico 3 Gold Edition, loaded it on my PC, updated with the 1.17 patch, and when it asks for my activation key and I enter it correctly, it says it is not valid. Any thoughts??"

Timo (Nov 3): "By manually patching to 1.17, you reverted your Gold Edition (including the expansion) to Tropico 3 vanilla, thus invalidating your serial key.
"Please re-install the game and you're set. The game updates automatically if you're online with no need to ever patch manually. In fact, manual patching is not supported by us and you risk damaging your game installation by downloading and applying patches from third-party websites."

Wow. One would expect something like that to be made more clearly known to the customer. Why wouldn't they just make it say to the person atempting to patch it that their game is already a more up-to-date version to avoid this problem.

I suppose what assumptions a person may make about the label "Gold Edition" probably depend on their level of sophistication in the gaming world.

It took me some period of time to discover that T1 had been issued as "Gold Edition" in Europe, but as "Mucho Macho" in the U.S. (N.A.). From that, I have concluded that "Gold Edition" means one thing to Europeans whilst Americans had spoken of "Going Gold" as meaning the first general publication version was being released to the sales pipeline.

Of course my level of sophistication is quite low. While I knew there was some concern about applying patches in order if their content was not cumulative so that just applying the latest was not good enough, this is the first time I had heard that applying an earlier patch to the latest version would "reset" the entire game to the earlier version. If that works on T1, it would be a boon to the players who would like to play the original without the PI expansion.

Lacking in sophistication, I have also thought that when a company released a "gold" or final version, that meant they had decided to drop all activity on that product except for an absolute minimum of trouble-shooting service and collecting proceeds from residual sales. Therefore there would never be a patch to a Gold Edition no matter how many wheels fell off the wagon with further play.

I wasn't being critical. Just that indeed, when i see a "Gold edition", it's usually a complete version. Going Gold is also known (UK) as when the product is being finished for publication...thus maybe some confusion. As you said, usually, a gold edition means that there won't be any further patches. It seems however that Grand Ages Rome Gold will still have a new patch as there's still a graphical problem it seems. Hello and Welcome

Cheers
