Anyone else using Vista or V Home Premium and experiencing crashing lately?  It's basically hit since one of two things happened to me...I purcahsed installed and played the hell out of Civ 5 OR at the same time Windows began coming out w/ a lot of updates recently...I just get some bizarre hard freezes or freezes during boot up...wondering if I did damage to my CPU or RAM playing Civ maybe?

Just checkin!

I use Vista Home premium 64bit and for roughly the last 4 weeks I have been getting the BlueScreen of Death error messages about once a day if not more. I went over two years from when I bought this computer without ever having seen a bluescreen error and now its constant. I'm looking to by another hardrive soon so I can backup my computer and then do a reinstall of windows, which I have yet to do since buying this computer. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Well, I'd hold on...My time frame is similar so I'm wondering if there is an update issue that is causing this...but you're right...time to get an external hard drive!

thanks for the input!

No, I'd doubt that it was caused by Civ 5, I've played it extensively and not having any issues on Win 7.  My guess is that an update has gone bad, or something has been installed that is causing the crashing.

Not being a wise guy, but this is why I reinstall Windows every 3 to 6 months, so that it stays clean, runs the best it can, and minimizes the amount of crashing that my software and games do when I let the O.S. stay  on my hdd for too long.  But I know Pat is a neater user than I am, I don't have a problem installing all kinds of junk on my 'puter since I know it will get wiped at the 3 month mark to start all over again.

The thing that I notice is that immediately after reinstalling Windows, my internet browser pops the pages onto the screen immediately.  After 3 or 6 months, it draws the pages onto the screen.  Windows loads almost instantly after a reinstall but by 3 or 6 months, it's upwards of 30 seconds for a load in.

Anyway, what I would do, is to check the updates against the MS tech forums to see if there are others experiencing similar problems.  Personally, I'm always behind the curve with updates, I generally won't install them for at least 7 days after release to give MS a chance to update them if there was found a problem, although a risky behavior on security updates, it generally keeps my computer from having issues with the updates that MS sends along to us in the updater.

Thanks CB...I'm going to order an external enclosure and a TB hard drive and just back the whole magilla up (mostly it's my wife's ipod and my kid's zune as well as my saves that I'm worried about) and rebuild the OS...probably the safest thing to do...but it might ALSO be my sata cables...and I know i have one bad sata port on my motherboard...serioulsy, if i could get he 790i SLI from nVidia, i'd replace the mobo!  But that's a tad pricey!

I got a 1TB hard seagate hd and an external enclosure all for under $100 from newegg....coming my way soon.  So here's the question, as a PSU employee, I can purchase a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate for $85...when I rebuild, should I just make the leap to 7?  Anyone having gaming trouble on W7?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and I have games from the last decade and a half.  I've had no problems getting any of the ones I've tried to run.  Same with hardware, everything runs fine.

I can confirm that The Guild works great Pat Sticking Tongue Out

What's PSU?  Is that a University?

Thanks guys!  I think for 85 bucks, it's worth it simply for the amount of RAM I'll save by not using Vista!

PSU is a University, indeed!  It's where I work...

And as long as The Guild games work, I'm good to go  Sticking Tongue Out  Renaissance is out in hard copy now and I'm getting it off GoGamer for $18 bucks...because the manual has my name in it!!!

Well, considering that Windows 7 'Ultimate' is what?  Something like $299.00 or $399.00?  I'd say grab it while you can for that $85.00, that's a nice steal at that price.

I think I bought the OEM version of 7, for $149.00 but it was only the home premium, and then I had to buy the upgrade to professional to get some features that were only in 'pro' at the time.  So that $85.00 is just about a steal.
