Hi,

While scouting out Youtube I've come across a few videos that showcase some stuff in the game, try to teach us something or are otherwise useful for people that are or want to play Cities XL (2009 version, though I imagine they will likely apply to the 2011 version as well).

And so, here they are:

1. Custom Interchange: (I had no idea this was possible using bridges)

2. Bridge Building:

3. How to create switches:

4. Straight Bridges and Highways:

5. Roads, Bridges and Highways:

Commenting on the first vid about the interchanges. I use to make simelar things but if I'm not mistaken its really only for looks, is it not? Is it not creating intersections in the middle of the main road? So in that example he has two intersections slowing down traffic, where as had he just pulled a single, two-way road off of the main road, with no bridges needed, it would actually be more functional I think. This is one of my pet peeves about this game is that they implemented a really cool bridging system and yet there is no functional purpose to using it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I believe that is correct.  To me Cities XL is more about building pretty and interesting looking cities rather than more functional cities.  Obviously the cities have to be functional to a certain point to make the game work, but in general for me it's all about the interesting looking city.

Since I've not been able to duplicate this interchange (which doesn't mean I don't keep trying) I can't comment on how bad it might slow down traffic.  I know that every intersection slows down traffic, and some city layouts that I've seen have intersections every 2 squares (lot=square) without too adverse of an affect.

The main problem seems to be with the way that MC programmed traffic with the one lane movement at a time, otherwise it wouldn't be too bad.

Anyway, I found it an interesting video, especially at the end where the player build the farm road to bring the bridge back up from where it sunk into the ground.
