I think is a good idea to create a welcome area for the new members to leave a welcome text.

Ok.  in Other stuff section create a new category for example "city lounge" or "city cafe" and inside that a sub section named "welcome area", where all new members could create a thread and leave a hello - hi - or whatever just to make a more human welcome into the forum

Also in the main page and /or after the subscription of a new member  you could leave a permanent text that invites the members to make a new welcome thread of their own. I've seen it, and it works very good i think. i am open to new thoughts  Thumbs Up

Great idea nickont!!

I'm sure CB will come up with something that fits into your suggestion.  I too, have seen some very successful forums use special Welcome, Census, Birthday topical forum/threads.  Well..in all modesty..I did have a hand in creating them.  Laughing but that's when I was much healthier and..younger. hehe

Be patience.."Rome wasn't...", well you know how long some things take. Looking around cautiously
