Hi,
I have just read that owners of Cities 2010 will get 50% off the price of 2011 just by owning Cities 2010.

Steam has Cities 2010 for $4.99 right now on their midweek sale, so that would save you a total of about $20.00 (assuming the game sells for $49.99 when 2011 is released) just by owning the key to Cities 2010.

It might be worth taking the chance of spending the 4.99 to buy 2010 now in hopes that you will want to buy 2011 when it is released at 50% off.

More details on the 50% off of 2011 here on Steam:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1446248

The offer ends on Thursday at 4pm PDT 09/30/2010

But would this mean I'd have to by CXL2011 from steam?  I really want to avoid that...It seems like a game I'll need a hard copy manual of....

I don't think so, from what I've read you only need the serial number, however that would only work for digital copies and quite possibly only those bought from the CitiesXL website and or focus Home Intereactive web site maybe.  From what I briefly remember reading we take the serial number for CXL2010 and then plug that into the shop and that will get us the discount, I think the shop was going to be on the CitiesXL website when ever they set it up.  So yeah I don't suppose it will get you a discount if you are buying locally but then again, do we really expect a 'real' manual to accompany any physical copies that we might find somewhere.

Also, has anybody heard if there will be physical copies of CXL2011 sold anywhere or will it be distributed digitally only?

Sadly, where I live we have one best buy, an ebgames and a gamestop that sell PC games, and none of them that have much of anything for the PC so it's Steam all the way for me now on if I want anything that isn't a first person shooter or WOW both of which my local best buy stock the shelves prettty good with.

Ok according to what I just read, (had to refresh my memory), the discount deal will be available both on the CitiesXL website and through steam as well.  I couldn't find info on whether the game will be sold in the physical stores or not, but surely we would not get any discount by buying locally since theres no way to do that with our serial numbers.  For some reason I want to say that this isn't going to be available locally, I don't know why I'm thinking that, but maybe I read it somewhere on the old MC website before MC crashed and burned.

Hmmm, hard question to answer Glencore.  I think that CXL09 is a game that allows players to create pretty looking cities and layouts, but at it's heart is not like a simulation like what is Simcity 4, which has it's own set of pro's and con's.

I do think however that CXL11 will be a better game for what Focus Home Interactive is fixing the bugs, and unlocking the buildings that MC had created and locked away in the game for future use in Planet offer.

If they can and do fix the reported memory leak, then the game will be a better game for it, but it will be basically the same game that was and is Cities XL 2009 (aka CXL2010) only with bug fixes (sound and gameplay and others) and the unlocking of all that was supposed to be in the game before MC got the crazy notion that they could actually turn it into an MMOCBG.

I must say there are a lot of good ideas here in citites XL, I guess I wish it had more of a simcity4 feel to it with the graphics updates / gameplayer improvements, but I'll have to give the new gameplay a chance.

However it does seem like focus is really trying to listen to the community, and a big one seems to be that they might be implementing modding into the game... if it is successfully implemented, that could really open things up!!

Oh, the last thing I read about FHI and opening up the game for modding was just 'unofficial' is all they said, meaning they don't know, or can't say, or won't say.

It would be great if they made it easier for the modders, apparently it can now be modded, however from what I've read it's a bit of a pain to do.

Some screens that I collected of CXL09 (Just because I liked them and as I say, CXL makes for pretty cities and personally I don't mind the bobbleheads walking around the city, that's sort of a mark of MC)

I very much like the last one, (cxl096.jpg), there's something about it that just appeals to me.
