Yeah I didn't appreciate that the res couldn't be changed.   This is actually one of the reasons I made sure not to get a widescreen monitor.   I prefer my 4:3 ratio.   There is, however, a configuration utility for the game that allows you to uncheck the option of running it in fullscreen mode.   But for me it didn't seem to do anything, it still ran in fullscreen mode.   I am curious though if it was added for people who have a widescreen.   Perhaps it adds black bars to the sides on widescreen monitors to avoid any stretching.   Its interesting though how steam shows a screenshot of the game at a much higher res, and/or at a much higher zoom level, when the game doesn't support it.   Must have been a modified picture.   Link to steams screenshot minus all the spaces: h ttp: cdn.  steampowered.  com/v/gfx/apps/12470/0000009112.  1920x1080.  jpg?t=1270602386

Still, at $1.  50 I could hardly pass it up and I find it more appealing then Patrician 3.

On the steam forums they are complaining about the limited res, too:

The creator of the PR series games was Ascaron, a german company that went bankrupt in 2009.  Kalypso Media
has bought some of their licences of the bankrupt's estate.  Hence Kalypso could start to make Patrician IV with
15 former Ascaron designers and coders.  Kalypso has also released a version of PR2 that works under Win7 and
Vista, but still is limited to 1024x768.  I think Steam is offering this Kalypso version.

Kalypso did not "recode" Port Royale 2 to make it Windows 7 compatible, they just removed the copy protection that is not compatible with any Operating System after Windows XP.

But did PR2 not offer 1280 * 1024?. . .  not perfect, but better than 1024 * 800.
