Hi folks,

I just wanted to announce that Age of Empires 'Online' is now accepting beta applications.

I've been involved in the alpha test for several weeks now and they just sent us an email telling us that we can tell people now that there is a closed beta signup available at http://www.ageofempiresonline.com/

Apparently you can get some beta keys today from

Gotta sign up for an account if you don't have one.. I am gonna give it a shot eh?

And upon further investigation, you have to pay for it.. imo, not really worth, but some may be eager for it.

Wait, so is AOE only pay to play or is it pay to play or play the really crappy free version? Or is the free version actually good?

The beta I believe will be free, but you pay for upgraded features... Not entirely sure on the model still.  Game is awesome though!

It is free to play, but to get a beta key, you have to sign up to that particular website to get a beta key, where you have the choice of paying for a subscription to get a beta key or waiting till they release them to free accounts.

As for AoE online, it is as crowe said. FREEMIUM! :P

I managed to get in on time to have a little go at it, I think it is on the games for windows market place for a few days as a free download, not sure how long this will last. Anyway, my impressions.. Well, I like it!

I am noticing a lot of sounds and some other similarities from Age of Mythology in the game.

I could go in to detail the item and town system if anyone wants, it is fairly similar to Age of Empires 3.
