If you could create your own city building game, what features would it have?

Personally I like seeing civilisations evolve.
- I would have a game that starts from the stone age and evolves right into the future.
- I would have something that lets you customise houses and buildings like in Spore
- I would have a feature to let you choose professions of certain individuals, then follow their family tree like in The Guild II.
- I would allow delving into a familie's house like in Sims or CivCity Rome (I think that's the one that allows it).

Those are some of the features I would have that I can think of off the top of my head.
I believe that game developers don't ask players like us enough about what we would like to see in a game.  If they did, and we all put our heads together, imagine the kick-a** game we could invent!

And unfortunately, when they do ask us, we give them some great ideas that are technically impossible and they tell us 'wow, great ideas' only to sweep them under the rug as being ideas that are before their technical time or ideas that don't jive with their own ideas for their game so they don't use them.

Cities XL was a good case for an example.

Currently, I am going to school for Game Art and Design in Sarasota, FL.  This is a very new program at our school and we have a handful of students already taking internships at major studios such as Treyarch (the new call of duty producer) and Volition (red faction).  Personally, I am looking in to an internship at Zynga, Activision/Blizzard, or even EA just to name a few.  I will be graduating in 2013 and I intend on being top of my class.

I am the oldest student in the entire major as I am currently going on 26 next month and I will be a sophomore starting next week.  So yeah, I use to be in the work force doing I. T.  stuff until I realized it wasn't for me, and instead I have chosen to pursue my love of games.

Anyway, what im getting at with this is that my personal intention is to create an actual city builder game embodying some of my own original ideas.  I have actually already drawn up some structured game design plans as well as penciled out some concept art for how the style of the game would flow.  I feel like since SimCity 4, the whole city building genre has been left starving and been given half-ass [*******] child versions of games that companies do not follow through with. . . .  games with big intentions that never really followed through (with the exception of Tropico 3).

As time goes on, Ill be stopping by this forum more often. . .  either to give feedback or to ask for some.  I will also be releasing a FEW details on my ideas for some city builders that I have in mind, but surely I would hope that you understand that I wouldn't want to give all of the information up.  The last thing I would want is to see my ideas being published by a company that I am not a part of :(

At any rate, my ultimate city building game will be the one that I one day create.  I aspire to achieve the type of status of legends like Will Wright, Peter Molyneux, Sid Meier or even Don Daglow Wink
