Hey pad, I finally got a chance to play this game, and now that I understand how things work, I see why you like the game so much.   I do have a few questions though (No manual on steam that I could find, and I might as well ask the expert :P).

How exactly does hiring work... it seems that the people I hire get a "advance bonus" and that is it.  Do they have a term limit before they need paid again?  I have played a few seasons, and have not had to pay them again.  And on that, when do salaries kick in?  I see it under finances, but everybody I hire just gets a straight advance pay.  And is there anything I can do specifically do to increase how good my employees are?

I decided to just go the farm/bakery/inn route, so far have a 'citizen' farm and bakery and am cranking out cakes, and beef.  Got about 6 employees.

And any tips on getting away from managing the work?  I have spent a few hours playing, and did nothing but try to make some money and work.  Didn't really experience anything else there is to experience, just started courting someone as I finally got a tip that said "You don't want to die and not have a family to carry on after you."

Any other tips or tricks you can pass along to the noob?

(And maybe all this has been answered, but didn't bother to look if you know a good place for me to start for some of this answer point me in the right direction Smiley Blink, I think I am gonna read the sticky and start over tonight if I have time.)

Crowebird, glad you're finally playing The Guild 2!  You'll love it...

First off, you actually do pay them, at the end of every turn (season or year), you'll notice that your available money goes down, this is a combination of money paid out in salary, taxes and church tithes...It happens just before the new year (season) starts.

As for 'how' to proceed, in all honesty, this is where the game becomse supremely open ended.  My route is to micromanage EVERYTHING, focus on making money and moving up in political offices.  for me, this takes a ton of time but in the end it's the best way I know how to play.  But others play it differently, they set the businesses to auto-manage, and focus on a lot of the interpersonal, political and military/fighting/underhanded aspects of the game...I dabble in those things on the side while I micro as many businesses as possible. I like to get up to about five and by then, smoke is coming out of my ears!!!

Bottom line, Crowebird, is money and political power will make you successful and there are a myriad of ways to get each!

later,
pat!

Actually, there's nothing random about it, it has to do with your wealth, notoriety, civic standing etc., withing your specific profession tree...and you can then go to the guild hose and carry out specific actions....
