For those that are interested in The Sims 3's create a world tool (a tool that allows you to build your own neighborhoods/worlds for The Sims 3) it has now been patched and I can say that it does indeed now work again.

The first patch this morning that reported fixing it, actually did not fix it, it only removed the memory error, and when starting CAW (Create a world) it would simply show the splash screen and then close again.

And now they have fixed it in CAW itself and you will need to uninstall the old version of CAW and install the new version (as of about 15 minutes before this post) to get it functioning again.

Ahhh, finally I can go back to working on my worlds.

Have fun.

Note you must have ATLEAST the base game of The Sims 3 installed for CAW to function, and it now works with Ambitions again too.  Download direct from the site listed above.

Sadly for me (and I suppose many others on the TS3 forums) the whole TS3, and it's expansions have been nothing but problems, semi-frequently requiring an uninstall./reinstall of the game and it's expansions to get it working again.  Although in all fairness, the game runs silky smooth when it's first installed and there are limited amounts of addons or downloads from the exchange added to it.  But after EA has issued patch to fix patch to fix patch it gets a bit rough and causes issues.

This time the BSOD was cured by uninstalling it all and reinstalling it all so something in the patches that they've issued went wrong on my installation until it finally couldn't hold anymore and poof.

Anyway, Now I've got CAW running, but anytime that I use the Edit in Game (EIG) feature in CAW which is the only way to place things like houses into the game, it allows me to only do simple lot additions, if I try to add more than one lot while in EIG, then when saving it crashes without notice to the desktop, if I use EIG to edit one of the lots, again it crashes when saving.  Something is wrong with their save system because before the most recent 2 patches, it would sometimes produce an error code 13, now it just crashes instead.  There's progress for ya. wink

I know it sounds stupid, but. . .

DO NOT USE EDIT IN GAME!!!!!!

Edit in Game has been borked from day one.  Use CAW to create your world, with only empty lots and neighbourhood deco.  After you have created your world, save and load into the game.  NOW you can place, design/build lots and sims.  I recomend Awesome mod from More Awesome Than You to edit relationships/jobs/etc.  When you want to share your world you need to share your "blank" world and a savegame with lots/sims.

See now I didn't have any problems using EIG before Ambitions, when the game was running on the 1ST expansion pack, EIG did what it was supposed to do, and it saved fine.

It's fine not to place any buildings on a world you create for your own use, but if you want to distribute it to other Sims fans they want the buildings already in place for some reason they don't care to have to place them, themselves  and hopefully nobody here that plays TS3 will take offense, but there are far too many Sims players on the official sims forums that wouldn't be able to install a saved game with a distributed world no matter how good the instructions are.  I've seen this over there many times.  There are of course some Sims players that outsmart me too, but there are far too  many that struggle with anything beyond just double clicking a sims3pack file to install it unfortunately.

Anyway, I started a new world as a test and so far EIG is working fine again, so I have to guess that something changed in the game code that makes EIG choke and puke trying to save my original CAW 1.6 world.

I don't know that I have enough 'oomph' to make a second world of the quality of my first world, it took a couple months working on it many many hours every week/day.  Plus I don't think I have the artistic vision to come up with a second world that is NOT like my first world.

Thanks for chiming in Kattenijin.

Oh and an Alpha test of my first world:
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/159101.page

I don't know if I'll be able to change anything since EIG doesn't want to save it anymore, so the Alpha test may be the final version of this world I suppose.

dang cb, you sure have put some time into that world... looks awesome!
Makes me want to get back into playing, but don't feel like the expansions would be worth it (even if new building stuff is cool).
