Okay i am feeling a bit stink, mainly because I have picked up cities xl for $20.00 and I am really quite enjoying it.  I was completely against getting this game when it first came out but now that I weakend and have bit of a play it is not as bad as I felt it was.  Infact, there has been a lot of work put into the game with some very nice little details. eg,   like the mime actions of an AI on the deck of his house by the front door where he made the actions of being inside of a box..that was a  nice little touch.  The old guy looked like he was doing his morning running on the same spot on the first floor balcony. There are females sunbathing, women talking on their mobiles.  The  walk of the pedestrians is quite swanky with the sideways motion of the shoulders and where  leg/hip movements  makes them look sort of jellyish... Laughing. The buildings have nice little details with them, like the addition of garbage bins and many other accesseries.  I especially like some of the artwork on the buildings.
The kids are cute and so far I have seen one dog out for a walk wth a family..I am hoping there will be lots more dogs  when the population grows.
Gameplay is definately different to SimCity 4, so i am doing my best to not compare now.  I am a bit disappointed that I can't add a school or hospital to my population, as I seem to have to have about 5,000 before I can do that.  I would have liked to give my folk healthcare asap (Edit  oops big foparr by me...You can have healthcare with a low population  Bashfull Female )
I am still finding little touches of niceness in the game with the excellent camera vew.  It is a shame the game wasn't worked on with the singleplay more of the focus as I feel there is a good bone structure to it.
Hopefully Focus will make  CitiesXL 2011 what MC had in mind for CXl but weren't able to achieve.

Don't worry about it, come let us know how you feel once the game starts to crash due to the memory leak, or after you've gotten to the center of the simulation like a tootsie pop and realized there really isn't one.  It should wipe those feelings right away.

Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty game to look at, but the simulation part of it is pretty stinky.

Also, make sure to get the mod that I discussed in another thread here, it really opens up the gameplay.

Oh that's right, I think a tootsie Pop is an american thing.  We used to run commercials with an owl and a little boy,

   Laughing  funny ole ad.

Have d/l the unlocker.....and wow lots more goodies.  Haven't tried the train/station yet but am itching to give it a whirl, but am aware that it may be buggy.

I just bought it last week because it was $20.00 and because of the patch. So far it's ok but very disappointed that the patch still didn't fix stuff that you mentioned. I am looking forward to the 2011 version. I hope it's not just an elaborate patch. I played the demo when it was the multiplayer and cancelled my pre-order.

In my opinion, the demo cut itself off when it does simply because they know that it's at that point where playtime simply becomes super repetitive.  I too bought the game when it was on 50% off sale so ($19.99) which for that price I guess it's ok if you want to make pretty looking worlds which it does very well.

Yah, hoping that Cities 2011 will be greatly improved.  Adding more buildings to the existing game is no different than adding more apples to the apple barrel that  already has spoiled apples in it, eventually the new apples rot too.  So hopefully they're digging deeper than just adding more fluff to the surface of the game else I suspect another failure approaching.

Steam has this on sale for very cheap, is it even worth $6. 24 for limited edition?

Cities 2010 is $4.99 right now and in my opinion it's worth that.  Plus it's been reported that if you own a copy of Cities 2010, and if you buy Cities 2011 in Oct 14, 2010 when it is released, you will get 2011 for 50% off, so that might be a savings of $20.00 depending on how much Cities 2011 actually sells for.

When I bought Cities XL 2010, I picked it up for $19.99 and I'd have to say that it was worth it at the time, sure I'd rather have gotten it for only $4.99 but still, it was worth it to make pretty looking cities, even with all the faults and shortsights of the game to me.  Your mileage may vary.

CB this is the main reason I ended up getting it, I heard the new one is going to be alot better according to the beta testers.

I read alot of bad things about Cities 2010, however each to his own, I usually take what most say with a grain of salt.  My own opinion is all that matters to me in the end.
So the 50% deal sounds like a win to me, lets say the new game will be $39. 99, in the long run I end up paying about $26 for both games, not bad :), even if I don't like this older version I still save money, I just got the Limited Edition for $6. 24.

If anyone is on the fence about buying this game now is the time, if you are a Steam user.
