Well, after MUCH consternation, tweaking the heck out of the .ini file (kudos to Piranha Bytes for supplying one) and finding the proper graphics setting, I'm about 15 hours into Gothic 3 and it's quite enjoyable so far!   There's nothing revolutionary here yet (granted I'm early and frankly, when was the last time since Morrowind we had a revolution in the RPG world), but it is definitely on par with G1 and G2.  Some bugs for sure, due to being rushed a bit out the door and the unbelievable expanse of the world, but still so far (early) no showstoppers.

I've managed to play at a solid 16x9 widescreen reso with ALL (many many choices) graphics setting maxed EXCEPT shadows off (why does my $5K Alien hate shadows?  Why oh why?) Anti-aliasing on 2x (could try 4x I suppose, but I see no discernable difference yet) and Post-Processing on medium (ambient glow, not depth of field).

So I'm basically happy and enjoying it!  I've been playing city builders NON-STOP (including the guild 2 as a CB) since May when I replayed E:RotMK to prep for GotRE.  So I need an RPG break for a bit, although I love Anno 1701 and found it hard to put down for a bit!

later,
pat!

Just thought I'd let you know that there is a Gothic 3 expansion pack on it's way.  It's meant to hit the shelves here in New Zealand in February approx not sure about America etc.
The down side is that the price it is selling for is more than I am willing to pay and my purse has retreated in fright until further notice.  Disagreeing Madly  Laughing

I keep meaning to pick up G3 everytime Im down at best buy as it's only $19.99 now, but everytime I go I forget to buy it.  After my dislike for the controls in the earlier versions of Gothic I don't mind taking the chance with $20 on G3. I'll have to make more effort to remember next time Im down there.
