Along with the many great deals that the members here find, there are bound to be games that we should avoid no matter that they are on sale.  For that purpose I have created this thread to ward off our friends from games that aren't even worth their sale price.

Make sure that if you post a game that people should avoid, you post the reasons why, else it will be removed as a post telling people to avoid such and such game but without reason can not be considered anything other than from a person that has a personal grudge against the game, it's developers, or it's fan base for ones own personal reasons.

I'll start off since I bought another steam game on this most recent summer sale (2010) and to be honest I found it not worth the sale price.

1. Avenscast (June 2010: $2.49)
It's kind of hard to say avoid this when the price is under $3.00 since it may lend people more than 20 minutes of pleasure but I just have to say avoid this title.
Why?  The controls on Avencast are so wonky and out there in the twilight zone that it makes the controls of games like Gothic series a pleasure to use.  First off there is really only one control scheme that works properly in the game, which is the one that has the camera follow your character, using the beginner or expert modes have you pressing W to go forward only instead your character runs to the right, or the left, or backwards depending on where your camera is facing.

Beyond awkward camera control you have a control system for the spells that consists of you having to press a series of keys (WASD) in a certain order and then one of your mouse buttons to fire off the spell.  I don't know who came up with this method but it's poor at best.  For example to shoot off the ice bullet spell you have to press D W (Aim with your mouse) then Right mouse button.  In all fairness you do have a certain amount of spaces that you can hotkey your spells to, and then use the F1 through about the F5 of F6 keys.  But even using the F keys are akward when you should simply be able to choose the spell and right click.   The fact that you have to remember what key combos are needed to fire off what spell, spells out trouble to begin with.  Personally, just let me press the 1 through 6 keys to select a spell that I'm going to use, and then my right mouse button.  On top of that aiming at a moving object in the game is chancy at best, it seems your mouse cursor that is now a reticule might need some tweaking in the aiming department like tweaking the gun sight on a rifle, this too may need some adjustements.

The game also has some issues that at certain points in the game you will find that the camera and the cursor are locked to your mouse and you can't get the regular mouse cursor to be able to select something like the game options button or the character panel button or any other button on the screen.

All in all, a definite Avoid Avencast even at $2.49

Hopefully, this forum area will still have more good sale games than ones to avoid but everybody wants to hear about the games to avoid too so that we don't go wasting money.
