Hi Y'all.

I am specifically designing a pen and paper RPG that encompasses aspects of both city building and 'civilization' style games in a "face-to-face" environment.
As such, I'd really like to discuss theory behind the genera.
Is there a place for me to post stuff like that here these days?
I figure I could use the greeters as a kind of reference staff. . .  no offence meant but it's my guess that you guys could help me find the best thread to pursue if the concept is even appropriate here.
. . .
Stuff like I notice that the Civ games "fat cross" of 21 squares and the development of larger scale "squares" equate to scaleable RPG type hexes.
Does anybody here wanna talk about the development of acer's compared to "city blocks"?
Doesn't much of the Sim City stuff assume the 'Green Revolution'?
I'd like to get opinions on medieval "subsistence farming" development and etc.

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY is on. . .  more later if anyone cares!

Welcome to the board Maou-Tsaou!  I think if you check out any of the threads like City Dump or some of the other overall generic ones, you can find a place to begin a thread!

Take care and enjoy!

Hello -- that sounds like an interesting and demanding project. Based on your sample list of specific sub-topics, I opine that you are looking for a unique place to test the depth of game design techniques. For example, you are going for a P&P board\map, so I can relate to squares vs hexes -- but what is acer's vs city blocks? Since I don't play SIMCITY, I can't imagine how the 'Green Revolution' might be buried somewhere in its theoritical basis. I am more inclined to think that the food supply for the 'city' is simply ignored -- just as Occidentals seldom wonder about how Singapore is fed. Now the evolution of farming in the European zone after the collapse of the Roman Empire is something that I can get interested in.

I suspect that what pad11 is suggesting is to look around quite a bit on the most generic boards (e.g. City Dump) at the most generic existing threads in order to get a flavor of what is posted and who does the posting.

Then if you feel comfortable doing so, you probably should start a new thread about your project. The major problem is that this site is heavily invested in computer stuff, and P&P games are almost not mentioned at all.

Here is a thread you may find interesting:

While I encourage you to create a thread to try to drum up some interest, I have a feeling that you're likely to find many more people that are interested in P&P RPG's on a forum that is specific to that of which I know for certain there are many, although I have not visited many of them in well... probably a good many years now, but when i last did they were still populated with many people that were interested in such games.

Or you might even find more people interested at a local hobby shop (if you have one around you) that offers P&P gaming on certain days of the week.  We used to have a local hobby shop that unfortunately closed down a couple years ago (maybe 1 or 2 years ago) that offered Saturday and Sunday P&P gaming that anytime that I happened in there on the weekend to pick up my airplane flying stuff, was always busy with tables filled with people playing one form or another of P&P gaming.

Honestly, although I find the idea of what you are doing to be fascinating, I'm sure that the things that you are going to want to discuss are far beyond what I'm even capable of comprehending when it comes to P&P gaming, but you are welcome to start a thread (probably the city dump is the best place since it's not like the name sounds, "a dump" but rather the place for all things that don't have their own forum) and try to drum up some interest.

If you are able to drum up some interest in the subject matter, I'll certainly take the few minutes it takes to create a category devoted to it for you, assuming it gets enough interest which it just might.  Although it may take a little time for places like google to find it and then others that are interested to come along and chime in (if ever).

Good Luck,  I'll at least be reading it to try to enhance my knowledge on such subject if you start one, although not likely to chime in myself due to lack of knowledge on the subject, since it's been a great long time since I played any sort of P&P gaming and when I did it was purely D&D gaming with all the books, dice, boards, paper and pen.
