Just some images that I snapped while playing T3:AP last night.

I have found that the game is/can be more difficult to earn a positive income and one sometimes has to watch what they are spending on edicts, especially the ones with recurring yearly expenses.  I don't know if there is a bug or not, but I was barely scraping by, every month I'd be about 45k in debt and then the ship would come and give me about 5k more than I was in debt for.  I checked the almanac which I never did in T3, but which seems necessary now in AP, and noted that I was supposedly only spending about 13k in edicts.

So, I removed, turned off, all edicts and waited and next thing I know I was rolling in the cash, with freighters coming in with the same amounts of about 55k to 75k and I was continuing to build but yet my income kept rising indicating to me that I must have had an edict that was costing me a fortune or it wasn't being recorded correctly in the almanac.  The only other possibility would be the food for everyone edict and turning it off gave me such a huge bump in food income to make the difference, however I think that unlikely since I'm not really big on farms and ranches and other food producing facilities, I generally only build the absolute necessity of food facilities.

Anyway... Some images of my new Island in Tropico 3: Absolute Power

1ST: Shows a look down mainstreet.  This is a bit old from last night/this morning, but shows off the new windmill power plants which are completely too expensive to use in the beginning since they are about 1800 a month in operating costs, but which I imagine wouldn't be a problem to switch over to them later in the game when you have a good economy going to get rid of the huge polluter, the coal power plant.

2ND: Overview shot with the new ferris wheel.

I forgot to  take a shot of the new balloon ride, which if you want to see it in your game place it where you will be hanging out most (as long as it's green) since the balloons pretty much stick to a close proximity of the balloon ride building.  So if you place the balloon ride on the edge of the island near some tourist area, you won't see them floating over the palace so best to place the ride inside of the city if you want them floating over the urban area of the city.  I'll get a shot of that when I bulldoze the balloon ride and re-establish it in the urban area of my city.

Although people told me that placing hotels in the urban area of my city will leave them unoccupied, I've found that to be contrary to what I experience in the game, my hotels all fill up even when they are in the middle of my city.  The way I figure it, place the hotels close to the places where the tourists are going to go to anyway, which always seems to be downtown Tropico.

Oh and here is the opening video to Absolute Power that I finally figured out how to convert and record Laughing, I'm just not a video tech, though I could be a computer tech with my A+ thingy that I got many years ago.

That's my normal paly style most of the time. Smiley Blink

I don't think I could play without referencing the almanac.

Nice screen shots. I ask GamersGate if T3 would play with the Box but no answer yet.

According to Timo at Kalypso, none of the digital versions will play with the store bought retail version of the game unfortunately.  I could have saved myself $7.50 if they did.

And now...

Traffic has become hell on my island and theres little if anything I can do about it.  I've got a main road artery that passes by the palace, and it seems that's the one road that everybody wants to stick to, regardless how many other roads that I open up for them.  Oh well, I don't suppose that El Presidente will be in office for too much longer since the last vote would have handed El Prez his hat had it not been for the tax cut edict which cost us about 100k.  I imagine next time will be the end of El Presidentes regime.

And a Hot air ballon ride. (sort of wish they would have actually put people in the balloon baskets, but oh well, not that important)

I see cattle in one shot. Have you noticed any restriction on where they can go to graze?

They seem to only be limited if we artificially limit them by blocking them in using something like one of the tree decorative items.  I think in that one shot is where my condo's are, and I've placed a "wall of sorts" around the condos not only to define the residential area but to keep the cattle out of that area and it seems to work, so unless we block them in one way or another they seem to pretty much go where they like within a certain distance of the ranch they came from.

It seems that cattle work in the same way that the new hot air balloons work, in that they can only stray from their respective buildings by a certain amount.

I've yet to see any cattle grazing in downtown Tropico, but then again I can't ever remember placing any ranches that would be close enough to downtown for them to go grazing there.  Hmmm, I might have to try that, it would be like India or any of the other countries where they have walking hamburgers cruising through town.

Although, I have a feeling they are programmed that if there is grass landscape or buildings, they are to choose the grass over the buildings, I would imagine if a ranch is placed in the middle of town they'll find the spots that are still grass to go to.  Of course I'd have to test that out to be certain though.

I finally got an answer from GamersGate'
Quote
Not sure.
Unlike most other digital distributors, GamersGate do not manipulate the games to fit only GamrsGate so it SHOULD not be a problem.
I guess they don't know. So I"ll see if the expansion will work with the box soon as I get funds (today or tomorrow). Not tested but I believe the cows stay reasonably close to the ranch and like CB said in grassy (ranches overlay [green area])areas. Chickens on the other hand...   Smiley Blink

The reason I ask is because this was a huge issue in T1.

Players went insane over the wandering cows and goats which go to any forage available without regard for distance from the Ranch building. (Indeed, your screenie looks like the cows are eating the hedge you placed around the apartment zone.) The result was an 'invisible fence' 8 tiles from the building. Bad result IMHO.

I have to wonder if your perception is that they stay within a "reasonable" distance is simply that you have not seen them in action when forage was in short supply?

The Ranches are touted as being very productive. However, no one has remarked on how far from the building the cows will go to eat.

It's just my curiosity on the contrast between T1 and T3.

I've never noticed them very far from the ranch and also have never seen forage in short supply like in T1 or Paradise Island. As far as I know it doesn't change. I'll watch a little closer next time I play.

Thanks. Interesting replies.

It sounds somewhat as if the animals grow at a single fixed rate without any connection with forage. Perhaps that's because the "natural" flora doesn't grow -- only the crops grow. I don't know.

That seems a possible change from T1 - as related to the radical change in the basis of the map.

A possible cross check would be observation of tree regrowth in logging areas.

Thanks again for answering.  Agreed Happy
