Interface
Building context hints
Some buildings have context hints available that summarize the most important information about the building. The context hints are located in the upper right corner of the screen and are automatically presented when the building is selected.
Building markers
Occasionally marker objects will appear above your buildings in the game. These markers indicate problems in the building, or that it is visited by the avatar.
Sun - The building has been visited by the avatar. This means that the building has become more effective - for instance farms will give better yields, constructions will be completed faster, or the service quality of restaurants will be improved.
Crossed people - The building has no workers.
Crossed bag - The building has not produced anything in the last year. Note: Farms set on certain crops will give their first yields after more than one year and the building marker will appear.
Crossed handcart - The building has output storage of over 1000. If you see this sign over a building, you should improve your transportation system so it can carry goods more efficiently. Note: For the Oil refinery, this icon will appear if the output storage is at the maximum capacity of the refinery.

Page 17

Unit markers
Citizens can have marker objects placed over their heads for a variety of reasons:
Personal actions - if a personal action will be performed on the unit (e.g. it will be arrested, bribed, etc.) it will have a marker over its head.
Mission/challenge specific markers - in certain missions and challenges, units will be marked. These markers are specific to the mission or challenge.
Low health care - If the citizen has low health care satisfaction, it will have a red cross in a white circle over its head. If you see many citizens with this marker above their heads you should construct a clinic or a hospital.
Low food quality - If the citizen has low food quality satisfaction it has a red spoon and fork marker above its head. If you see many citizens with this marker above their heads you should produce more food.

Garbage Dump  Big nasty pile of Poop

Effect: The garbage dump limits the pollution in a large radius. A fully staffed and upgraded garbage dump with expert workers will limit the pollution to zero. The garbage dump itself pollutes in a small area.

It employs: 2 Garbage Men Is this a new citizen avatar?

Options: Local garbage; Import garbage; Recycling.

Upgrades: High-temperature burner; Garbage Compactor.

At least it deals with the Environmentalist Faction!

Looks like it will take several dumps to get the environment of this island under control. I estimate at least four more and probably more. I have two now and even had the TV station set to learning with larry so,they should be experienced enough.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

The red spot in approx center is one mine, nothing else. They definitly did some work on the environment. It used to be easy to control, now I don't know if it is possible. Time will tell...

Landfills are very odd items, they are an eyesore, and their area of influence is not large enough to cover the island, and it's circular indicating the most efficient placement of it would be in the middle of where you want to clean up, i.e. somewhere towards the center of your city or other area that needs cleaning up.

I wrote up a thread about it on Kalypso but for the most part it went unnoticed, probably because it was more than 3 lines of text Laughing

Ah, ha! That reinforces a thought I had about the potential that there is a problem with the translation involving an idiom. The thought came to me when mention was made of the circular zone of effect of the building.

The manual very clearly calls it a garbage DUMP and not a landfill (sorry CB). Actually, the infrastructure of refuse\garbage handling and disposal is rather complex and involves several, specific kinds of activities. There has been a drastic, evolutionary change in the last 60 years.

A DUMP is a generic term related to final disposal of refuse -- in concept closely allied with cesspool as the point to which sewage drains. A dump receives little formal maintence other than from scavengers. Typically, they were for "dry" refuse, with waste food (garbage) being separated at the origin, and sold to hog farmers. The whole concept is generally obsolete in industrialized contries and most people there, younger than 40, have never seen one. That leads to the confusion with a "landfill."

A LANDFILL is a highly managed and mechanized final disposal point for all kinds of waste other than human sewage and human bodies. They have to be quite large in order to be economically feasible at all. Naturally such large parcels of land useless for any other productive purpose generally lie well outside urban areas and far from the places that generate the waste deposited there. It should be noted that they evolved from unmanaged dumps in inland areas. The traditional disposal method in sea-side (or river-side) communities was to load special "scows" and tow them out to sea to "unload" for the sea to consume.

I suggest that the building in T3AP has all the attributes of what is known in some (many?) parts of the US as a TRANSFER STATION which is a "way-point" in the transportation chain for waste from origin to final disposal. To be as simple as possible, a fleet of relatively small trucks collects waste from points of origin and carries it to the "transfer station" where it may be sorted for possible recycling or simply reloaded on larger trucks to be moved economically to disposal.

That's my proposal for trying to make sense of the game element. I still have to wonder what the Teamsters working there appear to do.

Looking around cautiously

Just downloaded the add on from Gamesplanet (SLOOOOW download BUT you get to burn a DVD of it, get four installs per download and four downloads plus all you do is email them for more installs).  Question...where are you guys finding the manual?  I cannot seem to locate it.

Thanks,
pat!

I got mine from GamersGate. The manual was a seperate download link.

I just got The Guild II. There are a lot of different Guild II listings. Are they all expansions or seperate games? And how about gold, does it cover them all? Just curious, I'm in the tutorial now.

You definitely want Gold or Platinum and then add the Sovereign user add on to it.  Gold includes Pirates of the European Seas, it adds, literally twice the gameplay content as the the original AND the Sovereign user add on adds on to that...it's the way to go!  The Guild series is my all time favoriate and right now I have the honor of helping with and Beta-ing the next Add on from JoWood/Runeforge, called Renaissance.  It will be awesome!

Tom, can you post that .pdf here?  My version, from metaboli/Gamesplanet, while burnable to DVD, does not include the manual.

later,
pat!

It kept timing out here. Probably too big. Thanks for the info, I'll go the way you suggested after I have played for a while. GamersGate has them on sale (dirt cheap) so maybe I'll go ahead and get them before they stop the sale.

I put the manual on my site bot in PDF and ZIP. Zipped is about 800,000K smaller. You may want to right click the pdf and choose "Save Target As" otherwise it will load in browser.

Oh, this is the T3 Expansion, I also have the original T3 manual if you want just let me know. Probably the same except for addition of expansion, I've never compared them. Just looked and there is a difference.
