So are large ships the only way to move bulk goods? I have a Fish Hut now and much fish.  Isn't there another way to move the goods? Through deals at the tavern or something like that?

Yeah, if you want to move goods in bulk, you better have a cog or higher....or make a ton of short runs to close towns w/ your snaikka's or smaller ships....

Then what is the deal with Fish? I finally made it to Merchant in the first campaign.  I assume that it happened in part because I started producing Fish and Iron Goods as per instruction.  But it's costing me more to produce Fish than I can sell.  Even in Bergen where they don't produce Fish I can't afford to sell.

Suprised

Caveat: I know nothing about the game.

Questioning

Actually the Hanse established their Bergen post to be the purchasing point for the Norse production of dried fish from the north North Sea. That purchased product was sold as winter food in the population centers of northern Europe.

I'm shocked that the game doesn't easily show that.

Oh, don't shy away from trading fish.  If you are in Luebeck, you can sell fish to Malmo and some other places at specific times and really make a bundle!  Plus, fish is also key in growing your town.

First of all, you need a convoy.  Make one of your ships a convoy leader (the tooltip will show you the requirements) and team up other ships.  That way you can move bulk in greater amounts.

Producing fish is at best a nonprofit / noncost trade.  so why bother? Don't.  Until later in the game.  When you have business in a city, you will want it to grow.  Producing fish then gives you two benefits: 1.  Cities supplied with enough fish will have happier populations, making available more workers for you and making you more popular.  2.  The workers need housing (profit for you if you own houses), food and beer (some amount of profit) and most importantly they will up the towns consumption rate of iron goods, skins, wool, meat and other high-profit items you can sell.

The point in owning businesses is sometimes more of a balancing game rather than a profit game.
