I broke down and bought the game as I really loved all the videos that people made.   I have played through the first 4 campaign scenarios but this game seems so different from other economy games.

I play Anno 1404 and it has a very defined building scenario, from what each level needs and what you do to build up.   This is really the first Settlers game I have played.

I am having a really difficult time understanding what it is I am supposed to do so I was wondering can you play the game without any enemies?  Like you can play in Anno and just build your economy and get to understand how everything works.

I always feel pressured when I am playing the campaign to beat the enemy and I always seem to do too much for the campaign.   It's like they really don't tell you what you are supposed to do like they did in the Anno campaigns.

Thanks.

Yes, you can choose to turn off the AI players when you are playing skirmish map mode.  Simply click the button that shows something like 'change player or change AI' and then choose no AI for that slot.  Do that for all three and you'll be on the map with just you and the neutrals.

As far as what you are supposed to be doing, well, it seems to me that The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom is all about gaining the victory points to win, so you simply need to see what VP are available and then try to strategize how you are going to get them and or prevent the AI players from getting them.

It's totally different than Anno games, and really boils down to a need for a boost economy and then going after the VP to win.  With no AI on the map, it's gonna get dull really fast (at least it does for me), so you may want to just set them to peaceful instead of turning them off that way they'll still try to win but won't attack you.
