I thought this was great especially since I am never likely to get down and play that close to the ground to see all that great stuff like the sun rays, and the little animations that the peeps do in the game.

The only thing I wonder about is the dynamic weather system as I've not seen any rain or other weather thus far.

I have yet to see any of the mood effects (except sunrays) in anything in the campaign (on map 5).  Hopefully in sandbox skirmish, there is really a playable day/night cycle w/ weather effects....

As it turns out the weather is only visible when you complete one of the events, I think it's the one that strikes our opponents with lightening.  I don't know which event building it is that allows this, I'd have to guess either a temple , some kind of living tree, or the labratory.  Oh and I think if you lose a certain map in the campaign one user reported perpetual rain.

I got to admit they did a really nice job on the video, it makes the game look tremendously better than the game actually looks, don't get me wrong I'm not saying the game itself looks bad, because it doesn't, it looks damn good, but not as good in my opinion as this video makes it out to be, at least not on my rig, perhaps though, and probably it does on Pat's rig and with good performance too.

Speaking of which, are you getting good performance in the game after you've played for a while and own a few sectors that have a fair amount of buildings placed in them Pat?

For me the game starts out really smooth, but once I own about 3 or 4 sectors and have placed my more than fair share of buildings in them, the game crawls down to about 8 to 15 fps, and scrolling around using the edge screen lags like crazy, where I move my mouse off the edge of the screen and the game stops scrolling the screen like 3 seconds later.  It's still playable since now I just use hold down my left mouse button and drag myself around the map most of the time which is far less laggy for me.

But in all fairness, I've only got the Nvidia 275GTX video card on this (getting older by the minute) 2.2GHz quad core and I have all the settings in the game turned to high, with the exception of shadows turned to low, and all the options turned on so I'm probably just over taxing my own computer for the sake of visual beauty in the game.  Besides it's kind of funny at times to see my little people run around the map, and take huge leaps that lands them 20 feet down the road Laughing

I think I really need to save my nickels and dimes and buy that 2.7 or 3.0 GHz replacement CPU for this rig, that would probably give me a nice performance increase in all the games that I play.  I unfortunately can't find the post anymore but somebody advised me on what CPU I could put into my rig and it was only like $100 or $175 and would move me up to either a 2.7 or 3.0GHz from this 2.2 which I would hope would really help, but I hate to save up the money only to find no discernable increase in performance in the games that I play, I've already been down that route with video cards, sli, crossfire etc over the years and found that I wasted more money upgrading video cards for little to no discernable performance increase unfortunately, sort of like the dog chasing it's tail all the time as it was for me chasing performance.

CB, so far I've noticed no lag at all, but again, I'm still early in the tutorial (map six i believe)....

Thanks Pat, I'm one step behind you on map 5 in the tutorial and no lag in there, it's usually not until I get into skirmish mode and get some sectors built up that it really starts to lag.

However I did what I hate to do which is to drop my screen resolution in a game from native 1920x1200 to 1680x1050 and the lag is reduced thus far, however I've not really tried to play any games that I've really built up some stuff on the map yet so it may start lagging again.

I believe this is one of those games that is not meant to have us own all the sectors on the map and have them all built up, it seems to me with the way that the AI plays in skirmish mode that it's supposed to be a faster paced game that doesn't have the gamer playing to where they own the majority of sectors on the map and have them all built up with buildings and settlers running all over the place.

I also have a feeling (only a feeling, no evidence) that perhaps this game is ultra CPU intensive more than graphics intensive and that might be causing the lag for me with all the massive amount of little people running around when I own many many sectors and have many buildings all over the place.  But it's only a feeling and could be totally wrong.
