So I modded my FSX.CFG following this guide:

As far as setting up nHancer, follow what he does on that link about 1/3 of the way down.

Also, I highlighted (in red at the bottom) two sections that you may need to look into yourself, affinitymask determines how many cores fsx uses, at 7, I believe that means to use the last 3 cores (since I have quad core), you may find different settings benefit you better, or to take it out all together.  Also bufferpools and have different affects.  I think you have the same card as me so that should be good for you (I also have 6gb ram)... if you are having issues try lowering the number.  [In both cases search affinitymask or bufferpools FSX and you should find some good guides].

Also, there are some mods to the cfg, that if you change any graphical settings in game, you will lose some of the tweaks.
(I believe it just affects:
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800 //3000
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=600 //1500
)
so you might have to go back and auto enter 800 and 600 if you do make any in game changes.

(I also took out the [trusted] section, as that would be specific to my FS folder)

Visually a huge improvement (obviously using a Microsoft plane so that's not going to look any better, but the scenery definitely looks better than it did prior), although I'm going to have to tweak it a bit (actually maybe a lot) as the performance is dastardly bad, it's only a lot better than a slideshow, what I mean is that theres constant jerking and not smooth at all but I expected this straight out swap of the CFG file so I'll work on it.  My guess is that your CPU is much more powerful than my 2.2GHz quadcore.

A couple images (sorry, no before shots, but trust me even if these don't look anywhere near as good as yours, they are tremendously better than what I'm used to seeing in FSX).

2ND image is a little blurry, I'm guessing that I captured it in "mid jerk" it actually looks a whole lot better in game.  I was pausing it to look around since I didn't want to hook up my yoke (which means clearing the desk which is a huge chore) so I pause often since I use my mouse as the yoke, and when I pause it's a little fuzzy like this compared to when it's actually running.

Oh and the only thing I really hate about FSX is that when I exit it, my computer never returns to the Aero desk style, it's some Win XP type of style, that is to say, the aero transparancy windows have to be all reset to work again, sometimes it's easy as changing the style, other times it's a major hassle.  One day I'll figure that out though.

Huh really? Never had the problem of the aero theme not switching back (should be an easy switch if you right click and go personalize... I have my current aera theme saved incase anything happens... which there is a save theme button on that page).

As far as the CPU, yea, I got an i7 2.7Ghz... really look into the affinitymask and the bufferpools... my bufferpools number might be way to high for you, those are two settings that might have the greatest affect.  But from what I read, you should be able to match all the other settings and get decent rates.  Affinity mask at 7 will not be right for you either, but being a quad core, that should be ok.  Try taking bufferpools and affinity mask out, and see if that helps at all (maybe bufferpools first)?

If all else fails, I highly recommend going through and reading that whole article and tweaking everything yourself, and then google search bufferpools and affinitymask for more detail, but his article is pretty much what I followed.  I did and it helped a lot!

Also search for TreeX that is the freeware tree mod I use, I dont remember if he hits on it in that article, but it changes you trees, which might help bring back 1 or 2 fps (maybe more...)

Ok thanks for all the info, I'll have to read that page (again) maybe this time when I have more time to actually sit patiently and go through the whole thing.  The last time that I read it and made the changes my performance I believe did increase, but the visual quality was about the same if I remember correctly.

I just tried removing the poolsize, and also tried changing the number to some other numbers that were recommended on an FSX guide that I ran across while searching for bufferpool and FSX, but neither changing the number nor commenting it out helped as didn't changing the affintymask to 4, 3, 2, 1 or commenting it out.

Thanks for trying to help, as mentioned when I have more time and patience I'll go through that read again and see if I missed anything.  Oh yeah I'll also search for someplace to download TreeX as the place that I found it wants me to register and I did but it refuses to send me the confirmation code no matter how many times I request it.

which takes your computer settings and tweaks your FSX.cfg for you for optimal performance, seems to be working really well, and it has added some tweaks to my cfg that I never have seen before.

Thanks, I've been trying to fly Black Shark helicopter but not progressing very well and do have the itch to go back to FSX, so likely will give this a try.
