I really like the game myself, and I don't even like the multiplayer. So it deffinitly can satisfy singleplayer-only costumers. I think my only gripe with the gameplay is that the victory points almost always lead to the game ending before I even have a chance to attack the AI, nevermind take one of the AI out. I end up winning before I get a chance. My other gripe is that the tech tree only allows one person to get each tech, even when allied. Considering how powerfull the techs are I don't think thats very balanced.

But besides those two gripes I think the game is awsome.

I will not play this game until Ubisoft fixes the online crap with this game. I brought this game because I thought it was gonna be a great game, but I was wrong, this is the worst piece of crap of a game that I ever brought. If I had known about all the problems with this game I wouldn't have brought it at all. Ubisoft is the worst excuse of a company out there and we the consumers are getting screwed because they don't want to listen to our complaints about them and this horrible game. This game wouldn't be so horrible If they would just fix the problems with the gameplay and disable the online crap of this game. But ubisoft has to dumb and stupid and doesn't want to listen. In conclusion they will lose the fanbase for all there PC games. I heard that the settlers 7 wasn't the only game that people were angry about they were also angry about other PC games that play just like settlers 7 does.

I don't know if changes were made to the game or if I only just discovered how useful the map forge in the game is. Out of my two complaints I can now say that the victory points are no longer a problem since I discovered that using the map forge I can set the game up to have only the victory points that I allow and I can set how many are needed to win. So basically I can set up each map using the map forge so that the only way to win is to own all the special sectors on the map and make most of the sectors special sectors. So I only need to own one of those special sectors to prevent any of the AI from winning.

Another thing that makes the game have additional replayability is that you can change which of the 2-4 player starting areas you start in so that you are playing the map from a different point of view with different territories around you.

I understand that people are annoyed with the drm and Ubisoft's general approach in marketing their products. But be that as it may the game itself is very fun in its own right. You can also play the game offline now it seems, so the drm is less of an issue. Let's also remember that Ubisoft did not make this game, Blue Byte did. But being that Ubisoft no doubt owns Blue Byte and is the publisher of the game, they force their drm and other superficial elements into the product that annoys everyone.

I guess I really need to load up The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom again and get it updated to see what's new, to me it could have been a really great game for one thing though... No map editor!  Had it had that, I'm likely to still play it (well, if any great user created maps were ever released I would likely still play with it).

I recently bought the Gold edition of this game, but I didn't know you could play it offline now! I can't seem to find an option for it.  Does anyone know how to change it to offline mode?

Thanks!

I'm not really sure. But it seemed that the servers weren't connecting for a week or so and it would still let me play but it showed that I was in offline mode. I would try right now but I keep getting an error code for some reason.

Thanks for replying.   I haven't had any problems with my connection so far.  .  .  touch wood.  .  .  I guess not so many people play this game as it's a bit old and their servers aren't under so much load.   I did notice there's a 'logout' button beside the online/offline notification, but when I try to click 'logout' nothing happens.

It would be good to be able to play offline because I notice sometimes when I'm playing that the game will pause or stutter for a split second and then continue.   I guess that's something to do with it being connected to their server.   It does seem a bit stupid though to do that when you're just playing against the AI or doing the campaign because there are no outside players involved.

I will ask on the Ubisoft forums, but not sure how long it'll take to get a reply because it looks like the mods and devs rarely reply to any posts about TS7 on there!
