... -- which gave me the idea of including in the early building starts a single width path for a "Grand Promenade" down the center of the island from the Complaints Office \ Hotel. If it usefully intersects the lateral connecting paths, it works like a champ. It can be widened and lit as you progress and so makes quite an attractive feature.

I worked on the name quite a bit. Promenade is the generic for an elaborate walking way, whilst Esplanade is the waterside version (and really not constructable in this game). They generally look like small versions of Boulevards - the vehicle equivalent - which developed from Avenues which was the special word to describe a tree lined street in a park-like setting. In any case, I think Promenade is a very fitting description of a central path in a carefree resort. ...

It was under Napoleon III's rule (the 2nd Empire) that Paris in its modern form was created. In 1853 he appointed Baron Haussmann as Prefect, charged with modernising the city. This Haussmann did to a drastic extent, demolishing much of the old city and replacing it with a network of wide, straight boulevards and radiating circuses. The Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes were both transformed into large public parks. Although Haussmann was forced to resign in 1869 after financial irregularities, his scheme is largely responsible for the present-day look and layout of Paris.

How many "game-playing" city builders really long to be a modern day Baron Haussman?

@ shaygamer

In browsing the Eidos archived forum, there is a warning that there are indeed two different patches which are not interchangeable. If someone has the "Beach Life" version, they need a different patch. Khalan's link [given in an early post in this thread] is to the US version - fortunately so because I had forgotten about the two.

So just a heads-up for owners of the different versions

Of course, that's far from a complete answer to your problem. But it's a start on getting the version of the patch that will work.

I am very sorry, but I know next to nothing about hardware and very little more about the system software. So even if you described your system, I would be unable to help you.

Hi Shaygamer,

Are you using windows 7 or XP? Try running it as Administrator.
 Hope that helps
