Hey guys,

I stumbled across your forum looking while looking for graphics fixes to Anno 1404 Venice, just a few minutes ago, and I had to join.

City building games are some of my favourite, and they are a rare breed.

So lets get the basics out of the way, I love the impression studio games, particularly Pharaoh.  (I really do wish they would make a mega content sized game in the tradition of the 2d isometric games, or at least released mod tools so that we could build something like that. . . )

I recently picked up Anno 1404 & Venice, (although I am also pissed at the lack of Venician buildings up for grabs, maybe modders will be able to unlock em?!)

Aside from Anno 1404, I've really only played the impression studio games, (Emperor, Zeus, Caesar, etc. )

So what can you guys recommend?

Welcome to the forums Mr. Lemming!

Children of the Nile is a great game, and probably still the best city builder in my opinion at least.

Ah yes I have played Children of the Nile a little, but from what I saw, it didnt have the metropolis type gameplay I enjoy.    The way buildings go up is cool though.

Here's an old screenie of one of my games.

Welcome Mr. Lemming,

At the moment, I'd suggest Tropico 3, even though it's up for debate if it's a strategy, City building game or something else entirely.  Personally I always recommend 1404, though I doubt I'll be able to rec Venice with the lack of venetian building "stuff", but will still rec 1404 but since you've already got that I'd go with Tropico 3, or Grand Ages Rome and still my favorite and still plays great on my computer now, is Simcity 4.

Wow, blast to the past on the screen shot.

Hello Mr. Lemming

Simcity 4 is a goodie.  Lots of fan made plugins available.  Like you Pharaoh is my favourite, tho I'm no expert with the game.

Oh, yeah.  Welcome to the forum too  Smiley Blink

I've honestly never tried any of the sim cities, the modern style put me off, but I think I'll see if I can find a demo somewhere.

For me, Simcity 4 has been worth every last penny that I've spent on it, and I even bought it twice, once when it first came out, then I bought the expansion "rush hour" when it came out, then I bought the simcity box when it was on sale for only 19.99 which includes Simcity Societies and it's expansion, Simcity 4 and Rush hour and some other little arcade simcity title.

In all the 300+ games that I've owned over the past 10 or more years, I've certainly gotten the most value out of SimCity 4 as it's one of those games that I come back to time and time again.

You can build enormous cities in CotN, and the maps are very large.
