OMG!  I can't believe how stupid I am, here I am just a couple messages up stating how the game is on sale for $7.50 on steam when just a couple messages above that you said the same thing.  Don't I feel like a Homer today!

... Anyway, I wouldn't hold my breath that Absolute Power will ever be released in physical form here in the U.S. While it may be the plan right now, who knows what will come up between now and when ever they have planned for release of it.  ...

I opine that Kalypso thinks on a completely different plane than we think on. Look at how they hyped Tropico - Reloaded ; 3 Great Games in One Pack! Paradise Island is an expansion pack unplayable by itself. When it first came out, the box had that caveat very prominently on its face.

Just to refresh minds, some time after "Breakaway" issued the major patch to clean-up PI and then sort-of dropped out of the picture, the Mucho Macho edition was published (in US ; 'Gold' in Europe) on two disks. It consolidated the original, PI and all the patches; and included the Manual and the Brady Guide in PDF format. That gave "Gathering of Developers", or whoever, another another run at the market with something fresh to put on the shelves. Later yet, another box called "Master Players' Edition" came out. It had "Mucho Macho" and "Pirate Cove" in it. So when stuff was still selling through physical stores, it was not unusual to update the packaging and keep something on the shelves. Probably such persistent marketing had a lot to do with Tropico's longevity.

I'm guessing that Kalypso doesn't want to put AP on hard media until the fan base has finished what is in effect, the open (you pay for participation) Beta Testing. At least 50% of AP consists of "fixes" for stuff from the closed Beta Test that couldn't make the publishing deadline. After the three or four guys in the mushroom farm assigned to follow-up on this game have reached the end of their ropes, Kalypso's flacks will gin-up a new page of hype and some new box art -- and they will have another run at the public's purse with all the patched-up code on hard media.

At least T1 got to the point it runs and rarely crashes a machine.

Hi Pat, according to Kalypso, none of the digital version will be compatible with our retail versions of the game.  They told me last time that I asked (prior to this last time) that it's due to the copy protection that they can't be compatible and one must buy in fact the expansion from the same place that their digital copy came from i.e. gamersgate for the original, gamersgate for the expansion, steam for the original, steam for the expansion etc.

I'd suggest that you splurge and buy the original T3 from steam for $7.50 while it's still on sale and then buy the steam expansion when it's made available again.

Ah crap...that sucks!  It looks like the UK version is going to be available in late May...perhaps I'll wait!  Sucks becuase I really really enjoy T3 and, given that Kalypso is one of the few publishers out there committed to city builders, I'm in for the expansion...plus they're doing Patrician 4!  WOOT!

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the hard copy release date!

later,
pat!

I only wish that I could register all my games that I own on the Steam service and download them from there, unfortunately Steam and or the publishers don't allow it.  It would be a huge beneficial service to the player if they did allow me to register my serial number and download the steam version of the games that I own and that they sell.

I remember that I originally ordered Tropico 3 from Steam but then there was that delay on digital sales for T3 so I cancelled my order with Steam and bought the lone copy that the local ebgames got in.  Shame that they didn't just let me register my copy of T3 on steam and download the steam version but oh well, I'll skip Starbucks a couple times this year and it will pay for the $7.50 that I gave steam for their version of T3.

I downloaded the Absolute Power expansion from Impulse.
It was very difficult to get it to work, it kept reading as Tropico 3.
I sent my problem to Stardock (i guess they own Impulse).
I was advised to re- download and reinstall.
Well I finally got it to work, but I have the strangest thing with the game.
When I zoom in there are little red boxes with the letter "F" on them all over the Island.
Does anyone who has played this game know what they are?

That sounds very much like a missing texture problem.  I don't know the cure, if it were me I'd download it (again, I know you must be tired of hearing that) and try once more.  If that fails then I don't know what to say.  Try the official kalypso forums I know this has been reported before and I believe there was a solution proposed for it, but I didn't bookmark the thread at the time.

Are you posting on the Kalypso forum as Polarhki?

Not that it makes any difference. I looked at the picture:
http://www.picpaste.com/Tropico.jpg

I don't know what the "F" stands for, but it appears certain that your installation has a problem with the unit\(people) avatars. Do you have any "people" appearing anywhere on your maps? The white boxes look to me to be where there should be people.

Sweathing from thinkng hard

BTW, the similar but larger box that appears when a building is demolished probably is the pile of salvage that is supposed to be there.

Further addendum: I looked closer at the picture and I see some people on and beyond the road; but none nearer. I also notice a few of the boxes nearer the road are somewhat indistinct.

It's as if the roadway is some sort of dividing line.
