What they used was not intuitive enough for many players, especially the money bag with a "no" slash.

Yeah, I guess this is why manuals to games have been so shortened to be little more than a phamphlet, nobody bothers to read them anymore. Looking around cautiously

So Absolute Power released today on steam for $19.99, and with that you can get Tropico 3 for 75% off for $7.50...
Now I am in debate mode, just got Civ IV to keep me occupied and was not super impressed with Tropico 3 when I played the demo...
Anyway that sale goes until the 21st if you want T3 on the cheap.

Maybe somebody already asked this in the past 3 pages...

Does anybody know if the Steam version of Absolute Power will work with the retail disk version of the game?

The unfortunate answer is NO!  Timo on the Kalypso forum informed me that the steam digital version will not work with the store bought (physical disk) Tropico 3 game.  Oh well... Unless they put out a retail disk in the Americas I guess I'm out of it, as I like Tropico 3, but not enough to buy the original game all over again via steam or some other digital disstributor.  I'm not all that hot for the expansion to spend the money all over again.

We are aware that for some reason, the Steam version of Tropico 3 Absolute Power does not work properly at the moment. We are looking into the issue and are working on a solution as we speak. What appeared to be a minor problem that could be solved within a few minutes turned out to be more complex than expected. Please stay tuned for more and keep the discussion on this issue to this thread. All other threads and posts will be deleted to prevent clutter.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

If I read correctly, Timo said on the Kalypso forum that a "bricks & mortar" verson of AP is intended to be released in North America, but there is no firm time schedule for that to happen.

Looking around cautiously Oh! I see Im Confused Sleeping

Yes that is what he said.  However what may be planned now, may never come to fruition.  Only time will really tell.  Personally, I think they're out of their minds doing another staggered release like they've done in the past, even if it's purely another mistake somewhere, it's just crazy.  But as we see, people that complained rather loudly that they would never buy another Kalypso product still are buying or planning on buying AP, so it just goes to show that people just like to complain and don't really give a damn how they are treated even if it is purely a mistake or accident.

I'll wait and see if it comes to the brick and mortar stores like best buy, and if I'm still interested at that point.  They seem to forget that they really need to strike while the iron is hot, not after I've cooled my heals playing all sorts of other games and forgotten about T3, which is almost at the point now.

Feed me new stuff every 6 months and keep my interest, make a big jumbled mess out of it and forget about it.  Personally, I think they should have made the digital expansion compatible with the retail physical disk, I have seen some other games that have done this, and all it really means is that they allow me to enter my serial number at Steam and download the steam version of T3, but I guess that's too much trouble for Valve or Kalypso to bother with.

Okay... Well I didn't know, or maybe I just didn't remember that Steam is offering Tropico 3 at 75% off right now, so it's only like $7.50 so I don't mind investing that to buy a copy that is on Steam which I find convenient to have my games on so I'll give them the $7.50 for the Tropico 3 on Steam and whenever they figure out what is wrong with the Steam version of AP, if it's not too long down the road then I'll buy it.

Anybody that was waiting for a great deal on Tropico 3 and doesn't own it yet, now is the time to get it on steam for only $7.50

It will be like GAR, it will never come out... only promises.  I don't think they care either, I have asked a few times on the message boards over there, and Timo answered once, then continued to ignore all my other inquiriers.  So if they are having problems, don't expect it to be released in NA.

I guess then it's a good thing to buy it on Steam for $7.50 right now then huh?  At least we know that the steam version will be put back on steam once they have figured out what is causing the problems with it.

I believe though that GAR expansion was never meant to be sold in brick and mortar stores here in N. America.  At least that's what I remember reading a while back.

Anyway, I wouldn't hold my breath that Absolute Power will ever be released in physical form here in the U.S. While it may be the plan right now, who knows what will come up between now and when ever they have planned for release of it.  I'd have to guess that what's going on is that Kalypso doesn't want to spend the money on manufacturing it and the boxes, manuals, disks etc unless they firmly believe that it will be a worthwhile financial adventure for them, maybe they are testing out the waters via digital distribution first before publishing to physical media.

It's very strange to see a digital release for sale at places like Steam or Gamersgate etc before it's in the real world physical stores.  Unless I'm wrong, I believe that was an issue with Tropico 3 initially, in that they couldn't sell it via steam before it was available at the physical stores first, and here they are selling it via steam and others first.  Yeah, it makes me think that maybe it really won't come to physical media after all.  So, $7.50 spent, of which they have to PATCH the damn steam version as Juanito and El Presidentes voices are missing from the game, it's very strange how silent the game is when both of those two characters have no voice in the game, almost unfun to play it like this.

I'm really surprised but it must have been introduced in the latest fiasco of patching the steam version when ever that was.  What a [*******]!
