I was just reinstalling TS3 on my new computer and noticed this in the patch update notes:

Note the part that is highlighted about how this update enables "dynamic ad serving capabilities" to the Sims 3.

And seriously, do they think that all Sims players are brainless fools?  Granted, I give you that there are really are a great deal of Sims players that really are braindead banshees, however not all of us are.

If they have no immediate plans to activate any content of this kind, then why include it in an update to TS3?

I think we all know how this will go down... First they'll shove some form of advertising into the game that is not really advertising but something that most players might find just kind of funny, so as to break the ice, then they'll start to add the real advertising of other EA products, and finally add in advertising for ad partners like maybe Ford if Ford has a vehicle in the game etc until we are inundated with advertisement.

Or they very well may simply use it to add more advertisements at the start of the game in the form of little movies that we will not be able to escape out of.  Theres a ton of possibilities, however one thing speaks quite clearly... If you have no intentions to use it, then there is no reason to include it, other than you really do have plans to use it.

Could be like nhl2010 how real boards have ads, so do the ones in game... and they are dynamic and change whenever ea pushes a new update.   The sims might do something of the same.  Like on the side of a taxi, or tv stations will have real ads on them.  They say they don't know when they will do it but those are marketing words - they know exactly their plans.

However it will probably break immersion... in nhl, I could care less, they are there in the real world, and fit in game... and just like the real world, I ignore them completely... but in the sims, if your sim is watching the tv and an ad shows up for pizza hut, but your sim can't go to pizza hut, or the new mustang is shown, but can't get that either for my sim either, I can see how that would ruin the experince.. then again not like EA cares... I have a feeling the only word said in a board meeting is "money, money money money money," but the point always gets across.
