I've gone from Undecided to "Worth Buying" after playing a short time in multiplayer with crowebird.  After this short hour or less of playing multiplayer co-op with crowebird I can see the enjoyment of playing 1404 in a multiplayer environment however I think it could have been better performed with a live voice chat system so that we can announce what it is that we are doing so that we don't go building the same thing twice, or so that we are both on the same page before doing something.

It can take far too much physical typing in the "in game" chat window over the course of a small time game, that it really screams out for something like skype or some other instant voice system.  With such a system, and if the game had the ability to not disconnect one or more players at anytime it should so choose, then multiplayer would be just about right for this type of game.

It's a very interesting concept to have multiple players all working off of the same set of resources, it makes one think a bit more before spending knowing that you are not just spending your own gold and resources, but your partner(s) as well.

Well, I've been playing it since Monday...I'm a yay if for no other reason than it got me back playing it!  But there are some interface improvements and serious game enhancements, plus I'm intrigued by some of the political military things that are new as well....IF they had added honest venician cities to build it'd be a home run...

I've not really noticed any interface improvements, however I do like the additions of more items to visually enhance our island cities like walls and flower gardens etc.  While I've placed a couple spy houses in some of my island cities, I can't say that I actually know what they do other than tell me all is ok.  It makes me wonder if I'm supposed to be placing these spy houses on my opponents islands and disguising them so that the AI doesn't know they are there, then maybe it will let me do some nefarious acts on my opponents.

(nefarious: A word I learned from playing the game 'evil genius', and my mother said that playing games was a waste of time, pfft Laughing)

I'm not through with the original yet.  I've only gone 4 levels in camp so far, I had gotten lazy about this.  I am going back to try and finish the first one at least for now and maybe save a few bucks if I buy.

I have to say though it is enjoyable, I love the response you get from the boats and the small tasks where you blow of a rogue trade ship.  One thing I didn't like was the rate to which I ran out of water on the southern islands, that just kind of distracted me getting into the theme of the missions.  I can't say about opponent games I never played on line either.

The norias running out of water so quickly was a major contention point for many players.  It annoyed me to no end when I had a large southern island setup with multiple islands and a lot of norias feeding water to those islands.  At times, I got the notification so often that I was running out of water that I wanted to scream at my monitor and whom ever was notifying me about it.

I believe it's been altered in the Venice expansion however, or at least it seems to have been as I don't notice getting those notification nearly as often as I used to, and it seems to me that the water in the noria doesn't run out nearly as fast as they used to.  Could be my imagination I suppose, but I don't think so.

At times, I wish that I played campaigns or scenarios as I'd likely not spend nearly as much money on games as I have in the past, since I'd be playing the campaigns and trying to beat them, but they're just not for me, which is why I like the Anno series (well, I like 1701 and 1404 specifically) with it's continuous game mode, which makes me very happy to play it.

I wished I could run up on shore and broadside my own settlements, that would cure allot of frustration in the game also would be cool to shock the heck out the poet and such by bombarding half his buildings for kicks some of the time.  I like the free mode in the game also, I may have spent most of my time there too.  I feel with Settlers 7 I may be doing it mostly too.  It seems I'll never catch up to playing that one on line either, the competition for points will be fierce I'd think.

I did one time do a mission where my reward was one of those items that you place in the warehouse of an island... its affect? That my norias would never run out of water.  It did make upkeep cost more (like 10-25% more, don't remember), but on an island with a lot of norias, you never have to worry about them again.

I don't know, I don't think that Settlers VI had a very active multiplayer life, but perhaps with The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom people will like it better and enough to actually play multiplayer with it.

I'd surely be playing some sort of free play with The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom if I were to get it.  I just don't play these games fast enough to play against other people.  Don't honestly have the desire to really.
