I know, it's pretty unconcievable that they would name an addon after a culture and not offer up Venetian Islands to build on, but it seems that is the case.

There is one Venetian island in the game, and it's owned by one of the island masters (like Sir Richard or the guy from the southern islands) but thus far in Continuous mode there is no venetian buildings or islands that venice canals can be built on.

I am disappointed to be honest.  For some reason I got the impression that we would be able to build venetian cities like we can with the southern regions cities but I see no way of doing that.

Opening up the first new scenario introduces me to Garibaldi (the guy with the one lone venetian city on the map) and has me firmly planted on a regular Northern type of city.  Utter disappointment.

If this doesn't matter to you, then you may be happy with the 2 new boats that can be built and the new decorations like flower gardens, statues etc.  Personally I was really looking forward to building my own Venice Canals on my Islands.

Really?!  That is highly dissapointing.  That ss you posted looked awesome, and I was looking forward to dabbling in some venetian cities of my own in that format.
Bummer.  How is the gameplay otherwise.. is the expansion worht the $20 if you don't play the campaign?

wow...really?  have you tried seeing if the freebuild maps offer any venetian cities to build upon or is it possible that stuff opens up later in the new campaign (like, okay, you've done a couple things, no go 'here' and build me a venitian city!)...something like that maybe?

damn....

It's certainly possible, however the general concensus seems to be on the anno 1404 english forum that there is no venetian islands to build on.  I've only tried the first scenario and the continuous game Im not exactly sure where the freebuild maps are located to be honest.

I'm almost tempted to say that it's worth the 20.00 purely based on the extra ornamentals like the flower gardens, walls etc, but only because 1701 and 1404 have always been severely lacking in those items so they seem to be worth more now that they've thrown them in.  However I don't know how many there are in total I've only seen the small flower garden, a large lion statue (which is really just a pedastal with a really tiny tiny lion at the top, it's smaller than the pedestal is round it seems, and the walls thus far.

Do you know if they included the interchangeable palace pieces to build your own palace like in 1701?  That alone would make me happy.

No, I wasn't able to get that far into it.  There is a problem with the save load system apparently according to some info on the German language forums and when auto save is on, sometimes it boffo's up like it did with me and I lost a few hours of play, then after starting over again and playing for several more hours, i saved the game and then exited when I tried to load again it wouldn't load the saved game so I've not been able to get too far into the game unfortunately.

I did however make two saves, "gameone" and "gameonebackup" and I've not tried the backup save yet to see if that one will let me continue, Im hoping it will otherwise I'll have to wait for a patch if they fix it.  It doesn't happen everytime so some people are lucky and other times they are not.

So, sorry I can't asnwer that for you.
