Seems like I am posting every weekend deal here lately, becuase I end up getting the game, but for $5, this is quite an interesting addicting game:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/22100/

There is no real story line, it is just a huge open world where you do what you want in a medieval society... you can recruit your army and become one who raids towns and tries to take over the world, or you can become a vassal and fight wars and make alliances, do quests for kings and lords, or town leaders...
and I guess there is an expansion coming out in about a month.  The battle system is pretty neat too.

You can try the demo first, the visuals are not the greatest, but the gameplay is oddly satisifying and addicting.  For $5, it is not bad.  I did not like it at first, but after trying a few different attempts at the demo, and getting a feel for the game I decided why not. (And I guess the game was made with just a guy and his wife).

It is also fully modable and I guess there are quite a few good mods out there too.

So if any of you see this and get a chance (without upsetting your lover :P) today to try out this game, I recommend it!  Or at 5 dollars, id say just throw down the money... with no story line, and a chance to do a lot of different things, you can kind of pick it up whenever.

It's definitely worth it.  I made a few mods for it, including the Unique Armoury mod.
The expansion also includes better graphics as well as gameplay features.

I've played this game on and off for years (since 0.6xx) and it's still great, and only getting better.

Edit:  The Warband expansion will be standalone, so it may be worth waiting for that instead.  But M&B is still worth the 5 dollars now, for the entertainment you'll get from it.

If you guys catch this, I recommend giving it a try!  With a few graphic mods, this game can look very nice.  Looking forward to the expansion to add a little more to the game.

For $5.00 it would be impossible to pass up.  For two trips to Sonic to get my Route 44 (44 ounce) cranbery slush Im sure I'll get much more value out of Mount and Blade, and so... Purchased for $5.00

I remember watching this game for a long time, seems it was in beta or something and was at one time a free game maybe?  I don't remember the particulars but purchased and downloading now.

I'd say go with Face Textures:
http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,37265.0.html

and Graphical Enhancement 2.5:

Also check this thread for a list of graphical mods:

Polished Landscapes is brilliant if you want to try it, it's a test release though:

Thanks Khalan,

That polished landscape looks so realistic, what a huge difference.  I think I'll have to try that out.  It may be so polished though that it outdoes the character and other graphics (like castles etc).  But Wow, just WOW, what a difference.

Somebody stole my horse.

I'm shocked, I went into one city (something like Khulan) and got off my horse near the horse dealer.  I forgot to get on my horse when I left the city and when I immediately went back into the city, my horse was gone.  I looked in my inventory and the horse was no longer there.

you just can't trust those folks back in those days I guess.  Time to start a new character (again)

What do you think CB?  I really did not expect much and think I have poured 20+ hours into it already.
