Montecristo has apparently removed the 2 and 3 month subscription offer for their Cities XL planet offering.  The only one currently available is the 1 month option which is aproximately 50% more expensive than if one chose the 3 month option that used to be available.

There is a lot of speculation as to why they have done this.  But the most surprising thing that I've read is that when you buy Cities XL, it only comes with a one week subscription to the planet offer instead of the usual MMO's 30 day subscription.  I'm a bit astonished that they have gone to all this trouble and taken all this heat to call their game an MMO (with a singleplayer game tagged on) and then stopped short of giving the usual 30 day playtime with the price of the product.  That smells like fishy shenanigans to me and just sends the message to anybody willing to buy their product that they are going to rape your wallet for as much as they can.

If I had to guess at why they've done away with the 2 and 3 month subscription options it's that they are going under and will soon close the planet offer.  They want to minimize how long they will need to stay open, while losing money.  Scuttlebut that I heard from an old time friend that I haven't spoken to in years that reports he still works for MC, is that the planet offer is losing money hand over fist.  So it's not hard to guess why they have removed the two longer subscription options at this point.

Will this be the end of MonteCristo?  I hope for all their workers and my friend that it's not, but it doesn't look all that good at the moment.
