Part of steams 5-day 1 day sale... but I played the demo, and this game is pretty sweet...
It is a puzzle platformer for $10... if you are unsure try the demo (which is what convinced me)

What is a "puzzle platformer"?

Is that a side scrolling arcade type of game?

yea its a sidescrolling game, where you have three characters of different abilities (That you can change on the fly) to try to get through the level... and the level has puzzles on the way that you have to solve to advance through the game.

The game is 3d and the level design is very beautiful but somewhat simple at the same time, and its not 3d that gets in the way...

But give the demo a try... you get to play the intro and the first level (and the story line is not too bad either, it has good voice narrating) - and if you do like it, you only got 12 more hours to take advantage of the 50% off

Thanks,
Downloading the demo now. I'd have to as I've never been thrilled about side scrolling games, maybe this one will break the side scrolling blues mode.  I'm kind of surprised to see somebody create a side scroller in this day and age, as I thought we left that mode behind with Donkey Kong and Mario.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up  (4/5)
Very entertaining and worth the $10.00 price of admission.  For those that love or even remotely enjoy side scrolling games, this one as mentioned by Crowebird has some great visuals.  I don't know if I'll have the finger dexterity to play it all the way through, but I'll certainly get my $10.00 out of it.

Definitely worth getting *IF* you don't "hate" side scrolling games.  For those that absolutely hate side scrollers this won't bring you back into the fold, but if you can even remotely tolerate them, then you might actually find Trine quite enjoyable.

I don't want to give away any secrets but I love the mage, he's just so darn cool with his ability to summon those mechanical boxes.  There appears to be ways to solve the puzzles in a number of different ways.  For example and since you can experience this almost immediately in the game I'll let on with this one.

For example... I'm stuck looking at a skelleton at the top of a mountain that is raining arrows down on my character.  I decide to switch to the mage and I conjure up one of his mechanical boxes and then use my telekenisis to move the box in front of me to block the arrows and then to the top of the mountain so that I can knock the skelleton backwards and push him off the top of the mountain area.  I then use my telekenisis again and move the box over to the ledge of the mountain and squish the skelleton with his conjured box.  Im sure however that both the thief and the warrior as well as the mage have other ways of accomplishing this.

This was the point that I purposely killed off my three characters to see what happens since it was the demo that I was playing and as expected I get the opportunity to reload from the last checkpoint or to quit to the main menu to start over again.  As one might imagine, if you'd played 10 hours in you'd likely choose to reload from the last save point.

Interesting things to do is to make sure that you use the character (thief, mage or warrior) that will best make use of the potions, for example if your warrior is vitally low on health, and you see a health potion, you're likely to want to choose to bring him up (happens instantly, they just replace the character currently on the screen) and have him walk over the health vial so that he gets the benefit of the healing potion, or if theres something specific to the mage, don't have the warrior walk across it as it would be simply wasted.

Quite enjoyable (even for a side scroller Laughing)
