Well we must only wonder what it takes to implement something like EL Trains.  It took them long enough to produce busses that I have to wonder what might be involved in producing something like EL Trains and I guess it's up to the individual to decide if something like mass transportation is something part of the core gameplay or not.

We would have to ask ourselves.
1. Can the game be played without the mass transportation item?
2. How much if any, does the game suffer from not having said transport item?

Personally, my gut feeling is that I'd like to lump all sorts of mass transport into the core game functions so that they're all free, however my brain wants to say that the game can be played without them and they are more fluff items than anything else since they're not really necessary to play the game, however they would be fun to have in the game to make a city look more realistic or just plain fun.

And yes, I think your guess is right, and MC will be producing all kinds of gems and addons that we will be paying for if we want them.  Nice thing is we have a choice and don't have to buy them like paying for a monthly subscription had people doing (I was not one of them however as I refused to pay to MC for a monthly on CXL)

My bet is that within 12 months of release Monte Cristo may be out of business...mark my words, this is the end for them as a developer.

pat!

DING DING DING!!!

We have a winner, Pat called it alright.  They didn't even make it the 12 months.

Well, I have better hopes for Cities XL 2011, I've just given them my $19.99 (50% discount for previous owners of 2009 version) as I read enough positive reports from a couple of the beta testers that were fixed and or added that it makes it worthwhile to me.

Hell, fixing the memory leak? Certainly worth $5.00 from me, fixing the airplanes so that we now see them over the city, another $5.00 from me, adding in the subways that can also go above ground (like on bridges), yup, another $5.00 from me, having the factories belch out smoke, you guessed it, another $5.00 from me.  Yup, overall seems worthwhile to give up $20.00 (50% discounted price) to get the enhanced version.  And if it helps them out so that it's worthwhile for them to put out expansions then that's great, i look forward to having more game added to the game.

That's great Pat, I'm pleased to hear that I'm not the only one getting CXL2011.

I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm with a bit of caution until I have the product downloaded and played it a bit, as I know the general gameplay isn't changed, what gets layed down as low density unskilled workers homes will always remain as such.  Which really... should appeal to people that really like to manicure their city layouts and have them exactly as they design them, which is a big population of CB gamers I imagine.  Personally, while I'd rather that the city evolves, I'm not miffed that I have to manicure my layouts to be what I want the city to look like and stay looking like that.

The only real major wishes that come to mind at the moment, would be things like the powerplant not supplying the entire city, or the hospital not being for the entire city, they should have a radius that they can handle and anything outside of that should require more, but I imagine that will come if there are ever any expansions.

I am looking forward to the individual tax options.  Although the game seems so easy at times that I can really turn down my taxes way low and still have millions in the accounts, not sure why that is, everybody know although I love the CB genre, I'm not very good at playing the games.

Anyone know if you are going to have to login to start the game like it is now?

No, they have removed the launcher from 2011 so we will not need to login to the 2011 version thankfully.

Tip: You can bypass the launcher in 2009 by using a shortcut to the citiesxl_game.exe file like this:
"E:\Cities XL\CitiesXL_Game.exe" NETWORK/PROFILE="disconnected" NETWORK/LOGIN="YOURUSERNAME" NETWORK/PASSWORD="YOURPASSWORD" NETWORK/COOKIE="" Localization/Language=en

Obviously replacing the path to where you installed the game and the 'YOURUSERNAME' and 'YOURPASSWORD' with your correct login information.  Then when you use this shortcut it will directly start up the game with no launcher and no login needed.

Thanks CB, I'm definitly gonna do this and the no login to play will be a plus for 2011. Heck, I might just drop by their site and give them $20.   Smiley Blink

Do we have a definitive release date for this game at this point?  I mean, should I be looking around?  I'm assuming I won't be able to get it stateside and will have to import it from GoGamer or something....

later,
pat!

Virmin is correct, it will be out next Thursday, the 14th of October.

I'm not sure about how or where it will be sold.  However I know one can buy it from the web site, and supposedly on Steam as well, but physical copies I'm just not sure if it will be here in the states or only in EU.
