Stronghold 2 has the same voice actors, many of the original sayings, larger maps, and they're 3d. Seek out some videos on YouTube. You might like it.

I almost bought it yesterday, but I need need to fix my car.

I've got stronghold 2 somewhere around here, it's just not the kind of 3D that I'm thinking of I guess maybe.  Stronghold 2 has the map editor right?  Yeah I'm pretty sure I've played around with SH2.

It's just when I look at the stronhold series on my screen, it looks so terribly outdated visually.  It's hard to try to explain that really, but Im sure you get what I mean.

Yes, I get it. But I have learned to not let it bug me. It gets to me when creating a playing field because I'm looking at the scenery. But when I play, I have no time for that.

I just got back from looking at some games and the reviews people say about them. One reviewer of SH2 says that the game has too much to deal with. The original stronghold does not. He says you gotta babysit even the loos (bathrooms). I dunno if I wanna go there.

I looked at Tropico 3 'cause you recommended it. I don't think I'd like it. It's too.. erm.. politically oriented. I just wanna have fun, and not be bothered by ideologies. One thought on this -- why don't they just make a tourist island, and leave out the crime and problems? I come to escape it all, not relive it.

I also looked once again at The Settlers: RoaE. Erm... boring. Where's the spark? Also, I don't wanna be forced into fitting my town into a limited area and figure out what goes where. And it looks like making your own maps is very time consuming. No thanks. I don't like puzzle solving. But I will admit, the music in this game is awesome (reminds me of Zorro)!

So... I'm back at square one, still satisfied with what I already own. I'd like to have something new, but most games are all the same. Some are boring. Some are tedious. Some are both. And the shooters... oh my! Most are just plain grotesque! Like, killing people is fun. Yeah, right.

I had basically the same issue with Settlers RoaE.  And I really didn't like being limited to where my main city could be and only have sort of outposts, I had really hoped with Settlers to be able to build really large cities on the map.  Oh well, maybe in Settlers 7 next this year

I may approach things differently, but I really don't find much political about Tropico 3.  Sure there are edicts like the original, but their really so tame.  To me I just basically start building my city and do what I want, add tourists, farms, industries etc.  Hmmm, yeah I can't really say that it's ever really even dawned on me that it might have ideologies in it.  I just build and am happy when I do.  But to each thie own.

Other than that one, you may want to take a look in the first forum category on this board and see what else might have been suggested in the great deals on games forum here, maybe something there might grab you, many things that I didn't think would, actually did, and I'm actually kind of enjoying the whole "virtual city" game right now.  It's ultra simplistic and easy to play for 20 or 40 minutes or more if you like, at a time and just walk away from.  It's a simple chain building system where you build a dairy so you need wheat to supply it so that it makes milk which in turn goes to the Dairy Queen to serve the people etc.  I can't vouch for the missions, as I only play them when I have to, so right now Im just playing on the colorado sandbox map to get some ideas of what is possible.  The thread about it, is listed in the thread box on the left side of the forum in case you haven't seen it yet.

Bahh I dont understand people who play games for their graphical output.  I play games for the enjoyablity of the gameplay itself! I guess thats what happens when you grow up playing games like caesar, diablo, doom, quake, etc. . . .  heck i still play starcraft online. . .

Does that make me pathetic? . . .  GOOD

Then ill continue to be pathetic as long as its still funnn  <333

Have you tried Dwarf Fortress then?  It's a great game if you can get into it.  I've got a thread about it somewhere here...

Here they are:

That's a fairly difficult question...

I enjoy Imperium Romanum Gold for it's graphics and how individuals are important. Grand Ages Rome is great too but i don't have a computer to handle it correctly. I love ancient civilization...can't do much with modern city-builders.

Emperor has a special place in my heart too...just love these chinese buildings and generally, i find the artwork fantastic.

Anno 1503 (i still don't have 1701 nor 1404)...great concept.

I have started to play Medieval Lords but don't think it will come in my favs.

I'd have to say the Anno games, 1404 or 1701, depending OR Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom!

There really needs to be another city builder set in ancient Asia - Japan or China or similar.  I can't think of anything other than Emperor, which was a great game.  Spent ages coming up with the best layouts and walker patrols etc.

Bring on Immortal Cities: Children of the Silk Road.

I'm honestly very surprised that Tilted Mills after buying back the IP of CotN, didn't pursue to turn it around into an Asia themed City Building game, but maybe sales were not what they expected from owning the ip rights to their CotN so they scrapped the idea or maybe it's in the frying pan right now, who knows really.  It would be a shame to have CotN be the last of their endeavors into the city building games.  All these little sideline games hopefully is making them money so they can afford to publish a huge CotN but in Asia (which of course changes the whole game which is what we want anyway).
