It's really sad for me right now with Cities XL.  I'm in the beta and while Im not supposed to discuss the game (so I won't), I can say that there is grumbling all around in the locked beta forums, mostly in hopes that MC will listen up to the suggestions people are spitting out daily to try to help them get away from this MMO thing they've got stuck in their brain.  Unless things change drastically, it's not likely that I'll be picking up this title.  Can't go into any more details than that I'm afraid, but once the NDA is lifted you can expect a full mouthful of information to come spitting out of my mouth (assuming we're allowed to do so after the beta is over).

I really think it's a shame that Tilted Mill has gone down this path.  They have this excellent game (children of the nile) and from what I remember, they own the damn thing, lock stock and barrell, so why in the world they are concentrating on these little side diversions can only be imagined that it's somehow making them some money to keep them afloat.  Honestly, I thought that the Hinterland was one of the worst games I've played in a long time, regardless that it's only $20.00 and it's almost defies to brain waves that Hinterland (and then their little "war game" which had some pretty rough reviews and rightly so) came out of the same studio that created Children of the Nile.

I can only hope that they are working on a CotN 2 at this point, updating the graphics, updating the gameplay, adding new twists and turns, or maybe completely overhauling it so that it's just in a different area, like Asia, or maybe Russia, some other landmass would be awesome.

I'd surely buy it if they put out CotN as something like Emperor, Rise of the Middle Kingdom, only in Children of the Nile style.  Theres so many possibilities, it boggles me that they've been wasting time on these little side diversion games that are little more than rip offs of so many games that came before them.

They really had (have) a great idea with CotN, and one can only hope they continue and expand on it, bring in different cultures etc.

I'm gonna head over to the TM forum later today and see if theres anything new going on, it's been ages since I've been there it seems.

Heck, I think I'll just take the plunge and install Children of the Nile on this computer, I never bothered to install it on this rig since I had issues with CotN on my last computer with the mouse making the screen jump from one side of the map all the way to the other.

But my brain needs a break from 1404, and maybe CotN is exactly what I need right now, if I can wrap my head around the whole paying people in bread things which someone around here tried to explain to me a couple years ago which I still can't quite grasp.

YUP, I'm gonna install it and fire it up, give it a whirl today along with a couple other older titles.

It's still my favourite city building game, although I was a little disappointed with the enhanced version, as it pretty much seemed like just another (albeit welcome) standard patch.

I'd love to see CotN2, or perhaps something like Children of the Silk Road (China).  I just hope they'll make it a proper game unlike their other two recent ones, and that they won't take their next CB game in the MMO direction that Monte Cristo is; Nile Online could possibly be an infrastructure test for CotN2.

Be interesting to hear what you've got to say about Cities XL once the NDA has lifted.
