Keypoints Italicized.I've been rummaging around in my game box trying to find anything to play or replay that might entertain me while we wait on both Grand Ages: Rome and or Cities XL, and noted that I have StrongHold 2 that I remember briefly playing, however spent most of my time in the editor nutfutzing around.  Figured that since I never actually completed the game and I gave up on the game long before all the scenarios created by other users started showing up that I might give it another try since Heaven has aproximately 175 economic scenarios and you all know that it's the economy that floats my boats in these games.

But I also see that Firefly put out a Crusader and later on a crusader extreme, and Im wondering for those amongst us that have either Crusader or the Extreme, maybe you could tell me the differences between SH2 and the Crusader line?

I gather that Extreme is simply Crusader with the ability to have virtually unlimited forces on the map.  If Crusader is a good addition to this game, and I could find it on the cheap, I'd likely pick it up.  However EBgames, Gamersgate.com etc all want like $30.00 for crusader extreme, and for a game that is I think several years old now, that might be a bit too high, unless I see rave reviews from our members.

Anyway, for those that have Crusader, could you tell me the main differences betwen it and SH2, and if you had to buy it over again, (assuming you have SH2), would you buy it again?

Finally, is Crusader Extreme, really "Extreme", and does it really allow virtually unlimited troops on the map at the same time?  I don't think it really matters that much to me as when you get 10,000 troops on one side on the map, it would be little more to me than a confusing mess of pixels on my screen and just too overwhelming.

Thanks,

I have Stronghold crusader and don't intend to buy Crusade extreme...

1. From the screenshots, it looks really bad (and i am a 2d games fan) due to the mass of units.
2. From what i've read, it's insanely difficult...not really a relaxing experience...

That's my 2 cents...

There's surely a demo around.

Cheers

CB, I'd steer clear of SH Extreme...basically looks like a mass of soldiers running around on the screen...the original Crusader featured an AWESOME story line and the Crusader Trail was an absolute blast...but this just looks like a mess of war.....

Thanks, yeah I'd have to try a demo first.  I just reinstalled SH2 and gave it a try and I usually love 2D graphics, however they are really really bad in SH2, simple things like the hunters dog walks around and his legs cross over (hard to explain really), or the way that everything is blurry and washed out.  It's possible it's just a case of my modern hardware could never have been taken into account when they created the game so it's not optimal for viewing pleasure, or maybe I've just got a setting that is off in the config.

Did you find Crusader to be better than SH2?  Does it have the ability for me to build a castle and then throw the enemy at it to see how it stands up?

Thanks Pat, yeah it's what I was concerned about, having too many troops on the screen at one time is just a jumbled mess.

What is the crusader trail about? Is it a better game visually and play wise than SH2 ?

The Crusader Trail was a series of 20 maps you played one after the other in the original Crusader!  So it's a 2D kind of campaign that came w/ Crusader....it was my favorite part of the game...HARD but enjoyable and really varied your goals and missions...

Actually the Crusader Trail has 50 maps.  An expansion added several more AI's and 30 more maps.  I would forget Extreme, it is basically the same maps just alot more units and much, much faster.  I tried the first map and barely got a granary up before the enemy AI had several hundred units in my camp burning everything in sight.  Disagreeing Madly

    Hi guy's  Hello and Welcome,
I thought about this game, I loved SH I, and enjoyed SH 2 on line, I don't like many on line multiplayer's, but this seemed to be extremely to much fighting. I also loved crusader, it was fun to defeat very hard landscape's and also defeat hard earned maps having fought too. But that's the point, like Anguille about the mass armies and difficulty and because in the crusader at times you did get run over very quickly, although after practice it was controlled but not at the rate this one is.
I can imagine some of the old scenario's on;y with mass soldier's and then to compete again as I did in the first one I would have to put many hours into playing just to get the  hang of things and then more.
I loved 2D's but ever so much love the 3D newer city builders and mellow fights or only line where there is time to do things and the fun of a builder game included of course.
So, I also think Crusader has an originality to it, personality, although it is SH, it has it's own flavor and is well worth a try out, and zemaster, what's this expansion ? Do you mean war chest, does that also have an expansion in it ? I have that some where, but I can not remember exactly what the expansion portion is of Crusader.
Did you find the demo, this seems to be all of them.

Yes Jam

Warchest is the expansion with the 30 additional Trail missions and the additional AI's.  (4-6) Can't remember exactly.  I loved Crusader and still play it occasionally, SH2 not so much.  I believe I spent more time worrying about  gong pits and thieves than I did about building my Stronghold Thumbs Down

Gong pits are amusing to a point, but I know what you mean.
As I recall there is a certain mission how ever in Crusader where you must survive in a small fortress on a hill top but use only scarce supplies from a valley to the side of it and close to it to start, the other side is the ocean. That was a hard one to beat at first, but I remember getting great satisfaction from doing it finally afterward.
