Greetings all,

I'm new to this wonderful forum and I have a question.

I'm looking for a City Builder where the citizens evolve.  They marry, have families, move up or down the social ladder.  I know many CB's do this but I am looking for one that perhaps shines above the others or focuses on this aspect in depth.

Thank you!

While it does not play a crucial role in how the game is played, Children of the Nile features this in a way that you can at least follow the family tree to see whence the family came, dates and professions...also, the children of nobles and certain shopkeepers move in to other open buildings, etc....

later,

Heaven forbid we might find a player who is looking for a game like The Guild..which you and I find so entertaining because it includes many of these "features"   Smiley Blink

An old thread, and the questioner probably will never see this reply, but --

I suggest that Tropico (the original w/PI expansion) has a rather elaborated citizen unit showing a lot of individualization plus family relationships.

Some players have reported spending more time watching the changes 'arboris' asks about, than on the building part of the game. Certainly, the citizens are not spawned by the buildings.

I can't speak for T3 other than to note that in it the citizens no longer have a preference for one of the five types of entertainment.

Doesn't what the OP request also fall on the Cultures series?  Maybe even Jo Wood's "The Nations", although it's been so long since I've played The Nations that maybe I'm wrong on that.

I would also say the Caesar series, particularly 3 and 4, really allows the citizens to evolve nicely....

Children of the Nile has evolving citizens and a history as part of the interface so you can see their progress.

You are correct  --  as far as Cultures and Cultures 2 with which I am familiar. I can't speak for further editions of the series.

I would caution that the Cultures player has far more ability to direct the citizens' life choices than the Tropico player does.

Again, I would suggest that there is a difference between people spawned by buildings and those who are independent of buildings. I am not familiar with most of the games mentioned, so I don't know if that is an important point or not.
