I'm not suprised that he won to be honest as in my opinion, he appeals to the young crowd, and being the first black president, he is a novelty much like Bush Jr was a novelty since it was the first father and son to be president.

He can't be any worse that GW  it's not possible, (apologize now for dissing your President), Obama sounds like he knows what he's talking about though, I hope he makes a good job of it, and please feel free to diss Gordon Brown.

My mother is steaming at the election of Obama, she swears now that she's moving all of their money and assets out of the country as she feels that it's going to be taken away from them with Obama as president.  She also felt the same way about the last presidency and only GW's taking it to the courts saved her staying in the U.S.

Hmmm, I wonder if she really means it.  Maybe I'll finally get my opportunity to tell her not to let the door hit her on the way out.

In actuality, we've already had the discussion with our young kids that economically, things are about to get a lot harder for us as a family and that we're heading into some pretty tough times.  We've decided to just buckle up, keep our heads on the lines in the middle of the road and get through this.

We both have jobs which we've each worked very hard to get and a certain amount of hard-work earned security, so we'll see.

Either way, from a voyeur's standpoint, it's going to be a wild thing to watch...(Sandra you lucky pup you!!!! )

I reckon America is a lot better off now that Obama is the "elected" president.

I just hope now that my country can be pulled out of it's miserable decline eventually with our elections coming up.  Gosh our health system is in tatters, the police don't have much leway, the criminals are getting away with murder - literally.  The law favours the criminals more that the victims...some criminals are even claiming compensation here..what on earth is our country coming too  . The welfare system is  increasinly pumping out more money. It is overly pc, the kids are so smothered that  kids stuff are being pulled from parks in case they "hurt" themselves etc..stupid, stupid people that sit in their stuffy offices making, more and more laws so we can't even hardly breath...grrr...grr...okay I have that off my chest now..sort of

RhiannOn that's EXACTLY what it's like in the UK, (are you in Australia), so bloody pc that I'm heartily sick of it, do you know why WE behave ourselves...are drug free, and most of us have NEVER been in trouble...because we used to get A BLOODY GOOD HIDING if we did anything wrong when we were growing up, even the teachers wielded their long rulers like good-'uns, AND IT DIDN'T DO US ANY HARM, a kid can take their parents to court nowadays for SHOUTING AT THEM I despair I really do

America used to be a place where hard work was rewarded and the criminal were punished...I worry where we're heading.

Still, anything is possible as long as parents (like me!) remind their kids of what used to be and what can be again.  

But it's hard with the media and our ever-growing PC population inundating them w/ a very dangerous, nanny-state type message.
