Could have use one other option up there for someone like myself......

Too damned cheap to pass out treats to the kids comeing to my door.  Baaahhhhumbug

Must be from my childhood, we were never allowed to go trick or treating even though we lived in Beverly hills growing up which was at that time very very safe and often times my classmates would tell me of their adventures and how many people had given them $5 gold coins for their treats.

I remember trick or treating when it was still safe to get apples, oranges, homemade fudge and cookies in your treat sack. In fact old Mrs Loomis used to ask us in and serve spooky punch, cookies, and give us tours of her 'haunted house' which got better every year.

By the time I started taking my kids around, it wasn't quite so safe except in the military housing areas.

When we moved to the midwest, the kids were really too old for trick or treat, but they went anyway and took all the neighborhood toddlers as an excuse. They had three Halloween nights in Greenleaf...

Beggars Night was Oct 30, Halloween night on the 31st of course, and what the locals used to fondly call IRS night on Nov 1st when the kids would go around collecting taxes on the leftover candy from the night before

Now I live in a semi-retirement community and there arent many kids here anyway. We don't worry about getting candy because no one ever comes, but I do mail Halloween costumes and candy to my grandkids.
