Well I bit the bullet and purchased Assassin Creed.

This game has atmosphere and I think is quite unique!!  I can see "Thief" (the game) very slightly within it.
AC is not a slash and hack game.  It is all about being reasonably stealthy and remaining unoticed.  Once you are noticed..well, be prepared to run and climb...especially if there are more that just a few soldiers after you  Big Smiley Grin Laughing.
Animation is excellent and as for the horse riding, it has you droolling.  The horses respond so very, very well. Turning and fighting on the horse is effortless.   It is all down to you and how well you can turn your horse and swipe with your sword and with good manavouring of your fingers  on the keyboard/mouse  to get the result Agreed Happy .  The hooves of the horses make a clopping sound on  rock and when not it is more muffled, very nicely done.  When the horse falls during a horseback fight it is quite heart wrenching, as it looks and sounds   sooo realisitic .  So far I haven't come across any enemy horse back fights only with grounds men.

The cities tho similar to look at have wonderful buildings and the landscape outside the cities is excellent. The land is very dry and you can almost feel the sizzling heat coming from the ground.
The objectives through the game so far, are similar tho, but I have not found it in the least boring.
You have the challenge of climbing up tall steeples -  this does get easier thank goodness once you get your controls sussed out.
You have the fun of leaping between buildings, climbing up walls/ladders and running across roofs.  Lots of fun when you have the soldiers coming after you and I have to admit it does get a bit tense if you get yourself cornered. There are hiding places, but i am not going to tell you what they are  Sticking Tongue Out  Laughing.

I use the keyboard and mouse and it took me a couple of days to get use to the binds, but I seem to beable to use it now without thinking too much about which key to push.
During the game there are little reminders of what combo keys to use with some objectives if you haven't used it before, so that is great.

The only thing that bugs me is exiting out of the game.  It is not like click exit couple of times and you are back to desktop.  It is bit of a long drawn out process, which is a pain.
There are no manual quick saves/save available.  The saves are when you complete an objective or collect flags. At first I thought collecting flags was a bit tacky, but I actually enjoy it.  Some are easy to get others not so easy and they are not all visible so you have to hunt.  There are  roof top races and time races which are quite challenging.
Well I have prattled enough, here are some ingame screenies
Oh yeah,  I forgot to add that knocking the ladies walking by carrying their clay pots on their head is fun........Big Smiley Grin Laughing  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Thumbs Up  I'm really glad you are enjoying this one RhiannOn.  I mentioned this game some time ago..the kids had quite a time with it.  From the little I know about..I agree the keys and actions for tactical movement has to be practiced.. more than I could comprehend almost.

I enjoyed your screens.. definately things I never got to see in the game..hehe

Keep us posted on you FUN time in this one.

Thanks again for sharing   Smiley Blink

And seeing as I went to the Doctor today, he had some sage wisdom to impart upon me. "Adam, you do for everybody, you planned you mothers day suprise, you drove 3 hours each way for Sammies mothers day visit, you deliver food to the needy many times a year, you cook, you clean, you take care of the dogs, you ensure theres food in your house, you pay the bills, you wrongly seem to carry the weight of the world and all that is bad in it on your shoulders,  it's no wonder you've been suffering severe depression and anxiety.  What have you done for yourself lately"? (I'm not saying this to make myself look good or anything because Im really the devil in disguise but... My doctor definitely knows my life rather well, but basically I think what he's really telling me is that the things that everybody in the world does that is normal stresses me a bit too much anyway...).

I thought and thought and thought and really couldn't come up with one thing that I'd done exclusively for myself in recent times, so on the way home I stopped at best buy and spend $49.95 on myself and bought this game.  The screenshots look so pretty and involving, well, that and there is nothing else that I don't have from best buy and that would be all for myself so... I bought Assassins Creed.

I only hope Im capable of actually playing it.

Oh and he saved me $200 from not having to seek out a analyst right now too.  He's really a great guy and Im only saddened that he's so old that I know he won't be around forever.

I went looking around the net trying to find a demo for it, but found plenty of videos for it.  This particular video really intrigues me with the way that the AI reacts to the player as well as the freedom of movement for the character.  Of course being a real horse lover, the game having horses is a HUGE plus in my book.  I know some sites said it could have been one of the best games of 2007 but was a disapointment but even at a disapointment one site gave it a 7.5 with an average user rating of 8.5 which I tend to trust more (the average real gamer rating, not the "professional reviewer").  So anyway, thanks to modern technology we are now able to post videos directly from YouTube to our forums by simply pasting the url in the address bar of the Youtube video page into a message and it will be auto embedded for us, so I bring you Assassins Creed video that I found so intriguing (it's for xbox 360 but you get the idea Im sure).

I think that RhiannOn will be able to tell us how close it looks to her experience with the game:

If you want to see it full screen it can only be done by viewing it from the YouTube.com site so here is the direct url to the page where you can then use whatever options they give you to view it full screen:
