Well then that's the one it will be.  It's now purchased and now I've just got to figure out how Im going to make it so customizable that people feel that it's "my game forum" and how Im going to intergrate it with this existing site so that they both work in conjunction with each other.

Wow, they sure do get them live fast now adays.  It used to take like 3 days before they became active, now I just typed in the name and it was live already.

Okay, so now who's gonna come up with our new logo?

Thumbs Up Yea!  It's decided!  Thumbs Up

What can we do to help you with this process CB?

I, for one, would be willing to volunteer time to help you with this endeavor, if you need and/or want it. wink

CB, this is WONDERFUL!  I have access to Photoshop Pro, so I'd be more than willing to work with combining any graphics that folks think would be good...from the header to a logo, etc.  You can all feed me the artwork or art idea and I can see about melding it into something workable with all of your approval...

just let me know,

How about taking (all) Avatars --- And put them in a collage or something...

Or try to make the name "MyGameForums" using the Avatars ?

There is a risk it will look very Messy though  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

But Photoshop can do wonders --- I know that.  wink

Smiley Blink  Personally I don't have any problems with the diversity.  The one thing that could be done is condense the forum menus...What I'm saying is the forum could have a Main menu which take players to styles, types of games they want to discuss.  Then each could have it own "activity" of postings.

Hello and Welcome I thought this was a great idea, MaxBeta!  Thumbs Up

I put together something that I think mimics your thoughts.  I basically started with what we currently have on this forum, and the games that I've heard mentioned, and split the forum up into categories.  I did it this way so that we could maintain the City Builder page, but add other pages to absorb the other categories.  Perhaps this will also give CB some additional ideas. Agreed Happy

Also included at the bottom is a "Suggestion" list that I started.  Hopefully others will pipe in with their suggestions to help CB out! wink

First off what do you use to read the xml files?  It opens in my browser but is just a bunch of text, I assume there should be some sort of structure to it.

Ummm, Im heavily leaning towards subdomains for each game, then each game could be structured as you folks think it should, the thing Im trying to work on is so that when people register on mygameforums.com they are registered for all forums, unfortunately the forum software that we're currently using doesn't work that way and Im going to be asking the forum software developers for help on this issue as Im sure others have wanted to do the same thing, so there must be a way and theres no point to my reinventing the wheel if it's already been done.  I could switch to another forum software package that I purchased a while ago that has a master database for the users and then allows multiple forums but I never liked the features (slow to come) and layout was a bear to change, where as SMF has many themes that people share and only need some tweaking to get them to look like what we want.

For those that don't know about subdomains they are the pre part to a domain name, so for example purposes, CityBuildergames.com might become CityBuilderGames.MyGameForums.com or it might be (probably) more broken down like Anno1702.MyGameForums.com and then there is just one forum for Anno and it's not dilluted with any other forums, but when someone hits the word home or forum list in a navigation panel it takes them back to a page that lists all the games that we currently have discussions for and allows them to go to that subdomain like Halo3.MyGameForums.com etc etc etc.

I'm listening and wondering what you all think to that proposal?

Since Im not getting a good response from the developers or other users on the subject heres an idea that I have.

Break down the game into categories, then the categories become the subdomain names and sub forums, like Action.MyGameForums.com and CityBuilders.MyGameForums.com etc etc etc.

Then on each of those sub category forums, they will hold all the games for those particular genres.  I think this is better than trying to do a subforum for every single game out there.

Then the main MyGameForums.com acts only as the portal to announce news, and other fun stuff and they go into the MyGameForums.com forums and click on Action Forums, and it takes them to action.mygameforums.com where they will find the action game forums with all the games having their own categories.

What do you all think about this idea?

Also note that each game can have it's own theme so if I can gather up some moderators that have some graphics talents they could change the look of their particular game forum, so the Anno 1701 forum category could look differently than the Halo3 forum.
