I give up, I think I've already invented the perfect wheel with these smileys and how they show up in subscription notifications i.e. [ wink ]  so Im just gonna keep these and try to get them all into the new forums in the most expedient method I can come up with.

Well Im happy to say that's done.  I attempted to keep the same codes for the same emotes, although a few of them I changed ever so slightly, like  Holiday Presents is now actually [ralphie] and the  Santa's Happy Holiday Train is [choochoo] over there at the other forums and I make a couple more more recogonizable by the name that appears for them in the subscription topics, but 99% of them remained the same.

It only took about 3 hours or so to get them into all 12 forums, I finally figured out a way after just sitting and thinking about it for 30 minutes of just doing it to one forum, then using a mysql application to directly work wth the backend database and drop and recreate the smiley tables for each forum with the same content as the one forum that I setup the smileys manually in, then just had to upload the images to each forum, and manually setup the new set as the default.

I can only say, I don't want to do it again Laughing

I'm done with the forums for the night.  I've been working on them for the past 36+ hours give or take, so now it's time for me to make a pot of coffee (Im not sleeping tonight anway), and getting back onto my desktop to play some capitalism II and trying to get into the billionaires club.

Oh by the way Max, if you are feeling up to it, and have the time please check out the capitalism II forum at MGF, I've come up with a couple questions that I could use your help on.

Thanks,

Hi,
I really do appreciate your work Sandra,

But I guess what I need to say first off is that they are too large, I've cropped and resized your last image to give you an idea of the "height" that the image must be.  It can't be any taller than 109 pixels high.

Now as you can see when resizing images they lose a certain something which is why they are best to create them at the right size to begin with.  I apologize if I didn't make it clear about the size, I guess I just figured that my examples would be taken literally, or maybe I just screwed up and uploaded the wrong sized images to begin with.

Anyway, I don't want to put a damper on anybody's fun but I am going to be keeping (for now anyway, so as to see what the response is) the image that is currently as the logo on the www.mygameforums.com website.  The one with the womens face, and the two masked villain type characters.

Oh, Kat, that "green blob" that you see is actually a rock, it comes from a game screenshot from Crysis, one of the most stunning (at least in my opinion) games of recent years, even if I hate First person shooters I sure to appreciate what they did with the enviornment, I'll try to attach a copy of the whole image that I borrowed the background from which makes it a bit clearer as to what it actually is.

So anyway, at the moment we don't need any more logos, but I am looking to make 128x128 pixel square icons.  I also need some in the size of 85x85 square pixels.

With text on them such as the following:

Demo News 128x128 and 85x85
Gaming News 128x128 and 85x85
Game Review 128x128 and 85x85
General Info 128x128 and 85x85
Member News 128x128 and 85x85

Im looking for something modern and flashy, with a darker coloring but still readable in the text so as to blend in with the sites current color schemes. which is like darker blues, a bit of some lighter blues and some yellowy orange highlights here and there is what's on the site now that's pretty much gotta stay.

I've attached one of my attempts or two but I don't like them, they are too light colored, and they aren't flash enough, they are sort of old fashioned looking which isn't what I think I would like to portray with the new sites. I'll attach them to the next message since Im limited in how many images I can add to one message.  Below though you'll see three images named off.png on.png and on2.png  These are the images that show up in the MGF forums next to categories that have new posts in them or no new posts.  In my opinion they are too large and really rather bla looking, but I really don't know what Im going for with them.  I do believe they need to be smaller, they might even be nicer as squares, or staying circular but with some sparkle to them, I don't know.  I do know that I hate them (sorry, that's such a strong word) in their current form.

So, Sandra, it's obvious that you have an artistic flair so maybe you could do something with these on, off, on2 png images to make them smaller, flashier, or change them completely, remember what they represent is what we need the users to understand.  When the off.png image shows it means there are no new messages in the associated category, when the on.png image is showing it means there is new messages in that category, and when the on2.png image shows, it means also there are new images in there, and I believe that there is a new image to one of the users subscribed topics.

Kat as you can see by the last image (crysissmaller.jpg) if you look at that water how beautiful it is, and that green blob you see in our MGF logo header image is that rock out in the water.   The reason why it's more of a green blob in our logo is because the image has to be compressed so that it's not 350kb in size else nobody would wait for it to load and would just leave the page, so the header had to be compressed which makes the image lose detail unfortunately.

Anyway, you all can have a laugh at my expense at my next post when I show you my attempts at the square icons that I mentioned Im looking for above in my next post.

Okay as promised here was my attempt to make some icons that I really (let's just say dislike) because they are not the right colors and they look too old fashioned and if one is to try to compete in todays market one needs to be substance which we have with all of the great members and the content we can provide but also must be flash to keep the end user visually stimulated,

It's rather like this site.  I love all of you guys and gals, I love the site, I love the content that we have ammased here, but to be honest, this site looks very old fashioned, but I've always felt that is okay because we're talking about city building games which isn't exactly state of the art gaming if you know what I mean.  Oh goodness, I guess that makes me sound a bit like an old fuddy duddy.  Oh well, maybe I am.

Okay, here for your laughter is my attempts at some icons:

As you can see they look old fashioned, they don't have any flash to them, they are rather humdrum when Im trying to be the opposite.

Again, thank you for all the help, wisdom, suggestions, and a special thank you to Katmandu2 for taking the time to archive the witcher files (which I assure you will get posted to the new site sometimes today or tommorrow and it is much much appreciated yours and everybodys efforts to help me take the next step to grow our community.
