Chronicles of Patrician III MultiplayerRecently a revered fellow citybuilder decided to try Patrician III. This is a game I've held in high regard for many years. So this Chronicle will eulogize an ongoing Saga.. newbie or not, Patrician III will take all players to task..as the forthcoming dialogue may confirm.
Along with recent developments..our honorable Administrator has provided me with the confidence to try some of the online Hosting services..in this case it is Hamachi..which surprisingly works really well.
This game..I've played endless hours, both single player and on LAN, and can attest the game has rarely crashed in those settings. So taking a plunge into MP with another player..( Oregon Taz), who is practically my neighbor in the Southern part of Oregon..I'm kind of in the middle-westerly portion of the State. Since she was playing..learning..what better way and opportunity to see how multiplayer works. Here's our story:
We both have Hamachi..a requirement. I created the game and Ore Taz joined. All went fairly well, once all the little quirks of fiddling with something new was ironed out. Finally the game announced it was ready to start.. Mmm? I forgot that in LAN I never used the "chat".. so actually forgot How.. and thus this caused lack of communication which is necessary in Patrician III. This lead to a restart and with all things considered it wasn't a big deal.. a real learning process.
Once more we start a new game. I'm in Stockholm (UC's there asking about a Celebration) and Ore Taz is in Luebeck ( a good City for a new player) to get a handle on Patrician III's economy and survival is the name of the early part of the game. Ore Taz did really well.. had more cash than I did..and way sooner than I expected. The only upside I had..I had found two pretty good Captains right away. This allowed me to autotrade sooner, but now that we knew how to exchange messages..we made a combined effort to find her a Captain too. None were up in the North and I reported every port I visited.. so she finally found a Captain in a Western town. We both were happy..now that we both are on a more even keel.. and not just referencing ships.
This is where we took a break from the game. We are both close in stats and cash wise..I won't know the exact figures until the game is reconvended for another play session. I certainly look forward to seeing Ore Taz progress to Mayor of Luebeck...maybe even further. So stay tuned..

These are in game criteria that will assist those who might be playing Patrician III MP. There's plenty of preparation for Future days in this game. So I'll try to expound on a few gameplay offerings that are unique to multiplayer.
1) Spreading the bargain basement priced goods. In this game..Luebeck is a target town for really cheap Wine. If you are there at the right time, you can make a wonderful profit in any town on the way back to your Home town. So as a suggestion to Ore Taz.. if she has a Warehouse manager, have him set to buy a certain amount of these low priced goods..so when you return home they will be waiting for you to distribute. I do this with Whale Oil in Stockholm. As the game progresses, this general strategy will work in towns that receive these product situations.
2) Worrying about Pirates early in the game.In other threads I've commented on this.. and if it is possible to engage them early, that is a good thing. In my Home town I start buying Cutlasses right away..because I want my main Captained ship to be sufficiently armed and the crew must be also. You can save cash with minimum crews, but if you do run into a Pirate..and the worst thing that can happen is losing your ship..that's a huge setback. Well armed and crewed ships usually escape..which is much easier to recover those repair bills than building a New ship.
3) Cooperation that is part of the multiplayer advantages. This comes from many past game experiences. As you gain favor in other towns, you rise in stature and as a Councilor you can vote and promote functions that occur in these town. Plus you can assist your fellow (human) player to gain favor and recognition toward establishing their political careers ...they in turn can do the same for you. Some of these instances can be discussed and be part of the "rules of the game" .. and should make the playing experience much more fun. What the point is here..another player must realize that every players reputation is important in ALL the games Towns. If I see another player Ship in my Town, I can only hope that they are gaining reputation in some way.
I could add more..but the post is already reaching catastrophic lengths.. If Oregon Taz and can somehow continue this game.. I intend to chronologically add more to the chronicles. I do encourage comments and additional commentary from Ore Taz and any other players..members.. OR just curiosity seekers. No one should worry about messing up this thread.. I can do that well enough all by myself..
