We have enjoyed games set in Egypt, Rome, and Ancient China.  Even the Carribean.  And I am sure someone will let me know what I missed.

If you were to have some say in the creation of a city builder, What would you suggest?

I was thinking about this.  I enjoy a couple different fantasy series (The Sword of Truth and The Wheel of Time if you're curious) and I think it would be interesting to have a city builder based on either of these.

I think that most of the people rather like historically correct than fantasy games. (But i might be wrong.)
The companies focus on those eras that have sold enough games in the past, and don't want to take the high risk of introducing
eras that were rarely used till now.
I wonder why there aren't any building games set in the Wild West. And what about some scenarios set in the very early
middle ages (say 300 - 750 AD)?

I thought about the "Wild West" city builder too.

There are still many civilizations to explore.   How about the Inca, Maya and Aztec?  How about Japan in the days of the Samurai?  Maybe the founding of America?

Since I am a huge fan of The Guild 1 and 2 (plug, hint, encourage!!!), I would LOVE a pure city builder set in the 1400 era Europe.  To me, it would be so unique as to focus more on empire building via economy and politics in a CB as opposed to a strong military as security.

But I'm a fool that way!

hehe Hello and Welcome  Me too pad11...I monitor the active Guild forums, English.. I surmise possibly you're there also, and as I, hope things work out for a great game.  I would be elated if Ascaron would expand their Patrician series...I played that baby to death..you might've too maybe? Wink

MaxBeta!  Yeah, I'm there a lot!  Dealing w/ the trolls there for the most part means keeping my mouth shut.  I just post positive stuff and try to help those folks out as much as possible!  We've got a Guild mini-board here and the one thing you'll notice about these forums is that it is VERY friendly and positve.  NO ONE even responds to trolls and they eventually go away...it works out great!

I'm LOVING The Guild 2 right now and have had NO stability problems, which I believe is much like the rest of the public.

Good deal and I'll see you over there!  Do you post as MaxBeta?

later and make sure you're visiting our guild threads here!

I dunno. I'll have to think about this. But generally, one in real time (i don't like turn based) and one with historical accuracy. A knowlege of history will prevent making the same mistakes over and over, so making it educational is paramount in my opinion. That gives it real value.

Also, a game that employs both push and pull technology is in order. Pull forces you to condense your city so that people have access to businesses and amenities. Push forces you to have efficient street layouts so that route travelers can get where they need to.

As far as a theme though, I dunno. Good question!

I thought about the "Wild West" city builder too. ...

There was one. Far West - Your Town, Your Rules, Your Laws. JoWooD "Encore" 2002

Unfortunately (for me at least) it has a glitch that makes it unplayable.

Any help?   Funstrated! Im Confused

The age of city states was in the early modern period 1600s, but I think that the systems in games need an overhaul so that you have less control directly over certain things, and also the citys need to get bigger.
