Im downloading the demo too.  I liked the ideas of EU games but they were just too complex for me to enjoy playing them, however I like Rome era so maybe it will allow me to better get into this one.  I'll see through the demo I hope.

Does it take like 4 minutes to start up on anybody elses computer?  I sit there watching it, loading sprites, loading this, loading that, loading this, that and the other thning, 4 minutes later it loads the main menu.

I change the resolution and it tells me the game must restart, fine, but all the menu buttons are now nothing but pixelated junk so I have no option but to kill the process.  I try again, another 4 minutes of my life wasted, I just couldn't wait any longer for the game to load and I killed the process again.

I'll leave it up to you folks to tell me how good it is.

Will do CB..  we all realize some games have UNappealing instances.. I have a few on some games too.

I checked "Timed" my game loading time.. It takes close to a minute..I see the loading sprites, maps pieces..etc too.. but it didn't seem unusually long.. I think it should be faster..it's only a small demo sizewise.   Sticking Tongue Out

I reduce the reso to 1280x1024... from my 1600x900 normal because I like the aperture size better.  Again I don't spend a lot of time looking at the Map..I'm in menus 99% of the time.  I only go out to check the Map to move Troops and ships..and that's all you can do..movement wise. I do check the Map for changes in Occupancy..by the game Ledger tells me everything I need to know about what's happened ..and saves me time search each country and province.

This EU game seems Brighter..more brillant ..or is it just me?   wink

To me these EU games are not an on map player interaction type of game.  I view them kind like a Historical Monopoly board game.  I can understand why this could drive a lot of players away.. because of the limitations in comparison to other games.   Smiley Blink

Sorry I realized I didn't say a thing about the gameplay.. my bad  Oh! I see

Yes the overall feel of the game is similar.  Just deeper colors..I think.  I'm playing with another monitor since I last played EU III.

The Demo is about the Punic Wars.. so really a good deal for those History buffs you find hanging out at the Paradox forums.

They've made the Trading ..interesting..and you seem to have more realistic opportunities to MAKE money..  EU III I stayed so broke that I had problems with Countries with small economies.

I do like the Era it is using.. maybe even more than the HRE that was prevalent in the Original game.  ButI'm just in the Demo.. UC may have the Full version before any of us here in the USA... well except pat..you know how he can get FedX involved  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

So in summary pretty much same as EU III ala Rome ...as much as I've been able to experience.   wink

Hmmmm, might be interesting if I can get it to load in under 2 minutes or so.  Thanks for the run down.

Thumbs Up  No prob CB ..wish I had more time in this one.  I played a couple of hours this AM.. and on VERY easy and I'm still getting clobbered by Carthage..  Maybe they Amped up the AI to ultra aggressive in the Demo.. hope so.  Because if it is TOO hard and very stressful..I won't play it...same as in any other game.

RE- learning where all the menus are has slowed me down.. I've forgotten most of what I figured out in EU III.. for whatever that might've been worth.   Laughing

I think pat will be a good player to give you a more in-depth summary of the game.. IF we can intice him away from  an <gasp> Oblivion Obsession vs new lappie, that's seems to be going on with him presently   wink

Okay got it loaded in under 2 minutes so I gave it a whirl.  It's definately (in my opinion) EUIII with Rome.  It's not for me as EU3 wasn't for me.  Im more of a visual player and I need to see something besides numbers and the whole EU interface in my opinion sucks onions (apologies to those that like it and to onions for having to degrade them).

Seriously, it's just one of those games that takes a certain type of player to enjoy it.  I don't enjoy having those pesky popup windows telling me about someones death but not tell me why I should care or why they should want to notify me about it.  It still suffers from the same pitfalls in my play style that all the EU games did, and that is while it's chalked full of information it still lacks giving the information at the right time in the right way to the player when he needs it most, and prevents him from getting it while keeping those pesky popups on the screen so as to remember exactly why Im looking for that information in the first place.

All in all Im sure the EU fans will love this, as for me I've still got EU3 sitting gathering dust and I don't need to add another EU title to the shelf only to gather dust.

But I hope you all enjoy it.

Smiley Blink  That's what I was eluding to CB.  For the visually impaired ..like me..games like this give me a break and still have the Reports and actions from menus as the main challenge to play.

I'm a real Historical trivia buff so..again what is going to happen in 390BC is something I might know and expect.  All the events in EU are scripted from history..so knowing who died when..does make the game more interesting for a certain group of players.

I DO wish I could enjoy the Uber Visual games as you do.. but I know I never will so I live within my own abilities ..and enjoy all games as best as I can.. Like you a few game I have gather Dust..because I just cannot get into them for one reason or the other..  right now one of them is a pat favorite and I hate to say it..but the game holds no interest to me..as it is devoid of game.  I'd rather spend time in a Editor environment.   wink

I can't get Lost Empires: Immortals to run.. hoping UC can help me out... but if not that's OK too.   Smiley Blink

About Lost Empires: Immortals,
Max check if the Demo installs :

"Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 1.0 Refresh"

The game runs under .NET so for some reason it needs this.  Looking around cautiously

Anyway I hope it helps!

Another thing people with problems to run the game did --- They just installed the latest DirectX from Microsoft...
