Hello and Welcome The above game is scheduled to be released on April 15, 2008.  What does anyone know about it? The advertisement lists the following features and summary:

- Fully 3D map with integrated graphics and detailed topography, start at any date between 280 B.C. and 27 B.C.

- Choose between 10 different cultures, including the Roman, Celtic, Greek and Egyptian civilzations

Experience one of the most defining periods in World History in an experience crafted by the masters of Grand Strategy.  The greatest cultural and military civilizations are brought to life through this epic title rife with great strategic and tactical depth.

Is this a city builder with military aspects, or is this a military game with little to no city builder aspects?

Smiley Blink  kat.. I'm a EU III player..and I suspect EU:Rome will follow the style and gameplay that was found it.   EU II-III were more board strategy games..very very deep and the player UI was extremely complex.  There are points where you build-upgrade but not in the fashion we are accustom to in actual builder games.

pad11 and I especially liked the game because of the massive micromanagement, intricate political options, and building power that translated into conquest..under the guise of colonization, vasselships..etc.  So I found that it doesn't appeal to my kids.. because of the gameplay..they like to be down in the action more than the game offered.

IF by chance Paradox steps up and makes this Rome release my intuitive and player hands on with things to do ON the map..that would be wonderful  Either way I'll be getting it.. just on the fact I enjoyed EU III so much.. even though I rarely succeeded in winning many of my game attempts.   wink

Hopefully pat or CB will chime in on their thoughts and experiences.  I've been waiting for more info on EU:Rome.. thanks for reminding me about it.   Agreed Happy

Smiley Blink  Good question kat.. most EU players will call it Turn base.  But EU III was a combination of RTS and TB.. The only roleplaying is taking the identity of a country of your choice.  This type of game is more of a Historical hobby.. for most of the player/fanatics who are attracted to it.  I mentioned why I liked it.. but it so time consuming to delve into.. I don't play it unless I have an entire weekend with nothing else to entertain myself.   wink

Again I do hope pat chimes in..or CB..their input would most likely balance my viewpoint.   Soapbox Speech with tape across mouth

Oops my mistake  Pure Turn Base is where you and another player (real, or AI) take turns in making game "moves" or decisions.  EU uses a "modified" version of this style..it is mostly noticed in the movement of Troops..as visual evidence.  The other is just a response to what action you employ..then the AI "takes" its turn.

The one and only true TB I liked was called Age of Mythology.. also I had a whole community of player who liked it too.  You know how that works... hehe

Hmm I think I will try the demo for this game before I decide to buy it.

My g/f is saying the demo is out for this game --- apparently just released.

I will have a look at  Gamershell if they have the demo.  Looking around cautiously Big Smiley Grin Laughing

 Thumbs Up  Thanks UC.

I Played the Demo last night. I tried beating Carthage too soon and almost lost he Empire in one failed swoop.. hehe   Big Smiley Grin Laughing

I like the way Trade is handled now.. plus the options for setting up your Governors looks to be more effective.  Of course my first try is mostly disastrous.. my Commanders died of old age or had no real Loyalty..  So I think this game will consume a lot of playing time to figure things out...much like its predecessor.

pat will go bonkers I suspect.. I had a "head-scratching" time getting use to all the UI menus again.  You don't get very far into the game sitting in "pause" ... hehe   Laughing
