Hello Fellow City Builders

This is an open invitation to find out how this Forums membership feels about sharing Custom made game maps/scenarios made with games with Editors.

First we should identify the games that this Forum supports where this can happen.  Also it would be nice to establish which game is popular enough to warrant an undertaking of this nature.

For now this thread is open to comments and opinions either way.  Hopefully with all the fine games available we can discover a way to share some of the great User creations.

The plus to all this.. it may assist us in finding ways to enhance all of our gameplay efforts ..more fun for everyone.   wink

Thanks..and now post your thoughts.

I like the idea Max.  I wish that we could get more people involved in sharing their creations.  I've now got a pretty good chunk of webspace on this website to hold user created content and would welcome playing other peoples creations as well as trying to actually finish some of my own creations if people are willing to play them.

Hmmm games that have editors that we talk about here....

Children of the Nile obviously
Caesar IV (Hate the editor with a passion)
Titan Quest (lovely editor, though obviously this is RPG and not CB but we do talk about it once in a blue moon)

Oh heck, Im at a mental block at the moment.  Im sure there are more so feel free to chime in people, and let everybody know your thoughts on the subject as well as any games that we all play and discuss around here that have an editor.

Smiley Blink  I was hoping you would like the idea.. <whew>   wink

Today when I was researching a game question from one of the members (EmperorRotMK) ..I ran across dozens of game maps I had stashed..from every Builder I've been associated with to date.  Plus authored mostly from great City Builders I've known through the years.  Some of these maps have blue ribbon status for gameplay.  But enough about MY collection..  If I have some..what about all these other players..?

So I felt it would be a good opening to offer this invitation.. I hope it gets a positive ..or at lest an open minded appraisal from the great players we have here at City Builders.

I've yet to try the new patch for S6, I believe it is out ?? it will take some kinks out of the editor so I must try soon.
I love to use editor's, so I must write something here, but what, I do know that a friend used a link he gave me to transfer map's when we played HoK, www.sendspace.com , also I know that Stronghold 2 has a feature at the multiplayer server that updates at start of game's for your teams and opponents team maps on line prior to game, I never could get the CotN editor to do more than modify Dev game maps to make them more interesting, like adding more huts and pockets of resources (tin etc..),
Perhaps an editor section for all editor, with announcements of featured member maps and child boards inside, this may help when its a limited amount of things and always ready for an influx of coolness in an editor's life as long as that could be, you can have an old map board there where general talk can help people find someone who can, for lack of words, turn them on to a great older map, lots of new mem's are just starting to experience new game, we have old map,s too, also this might attract new user map using gamers to forum, hey if something bursts broaden the base, what do you think, I say all in one, should manage easier that way, I know I'll be there to read it.
I think IR is ripe for an editor, perhap's we where wrong about that the other day Max ??
You guys know I love SV & S6 editor's, others I maintain use for myself but can create for an appropriate situation or play someones stuff from time to time as well. Editor's are an excellent hobby and bonus for multiplayer game as well as for those who love trying our creations.
                          Thumbs Up Smiley Blink

Doh, completely forgot about Settlers 6 having an editor and it's actually a pretty easy editor to work with and since they finally released the english language manual and tutorial for the editor it makes it even easier to work with : http://media.ubi.com/us/games/settlers/S6_Map_Editor_tutorial.zip

Hello and Welcome Good Morning Everyone!

Don't forget about CivCity: Rome!  I believe I read where folks loved that editor...correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Correction, many people were not very happy with them because Firefly failed to ever release a tool that would allow people to work with the outside cities maps, I can't remember the name of what they call them, but when you play the game there are cities on the world map that you might be able to trade with etc, and people desperately wanted to be able to adjust those when they created their own maps but couldn't due to no tool from FF to do so.  But other than that, it was/is a reasonably easy editor to work with and Pat let us in on a few tips on how to do some specific things to spruce up our maps.  He made some beautiful maps by the way if you've never yet seen them.

Smiley Blink I particularly liked the editors for CivCity Rome..and Stronghold.  I've worked in them all since Caesar III.. for citybuilder types at least.  Before that it was the Age games that had me going.  Tile based games and editors seem to go great together.

The tool CB is referring to..is not being able to edit the Empire map..which was shortsighted by FF's development managers.  All the preceding citybuilders allowed some sort of Trade management for the outside world.  Pharaoh and Zeus was were fairly complex..so it wasn't like something needed to be invented.   wink

Since CB already has a dedicated site for CivCity Rome..I don't want to clash with its area of interest.. we do have so many games to choose from, that will keep us busy lil editor beavers.   Big Smiley Grin Laughing
