 Looking around cautiously

you remember what is going to come up in the tablets and can prepare for them in advance.

For me there's no other way to play this game.  Being a City Builder..I like to plan what I'm going to do.. so I need to know what malicious consternation the tablets have devised.  I don't post scores..because mostly of my playing style.  My reward comes from City design, making a profit and keeping people happy. That more than enough challenge for me.. if there were a score for having 350 Villas..then I might be interested.  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

...again SouthPeak must be a boxed copy designation..I'd change it it...just out of respect for CB..  wink  I may have to deal with this when and if a Boxed copy of the games comes to retail shops in my neighborhood.

I don't want to side track anything here but to be honest the only game that challenges my profit making skills in a city builder is still the simcity 4 game.  It's the only one that keeps me on my toes from the beginning to the end (if there is really ever an end) since Im constantly building something and need civic buildings to go along which cost me more money.  It's the one game that I've found challenging in this regard from beginning to end and wish there were others as I'd love to give them a go.  But most CB games released in recent years have sometimes trouble to make money in the beginning but by the end you are rolling in cash where you can throw caution to the wind and do as you please unfortunately.

I agree the SimCity 4 does make you pay attention..and controls expansion..well wild building sprees for sure.  Another one that pat I like and cash doesn't come easy is Patrician.. even if you do succeed the fines will wipe them out.   wink  But for the most part most City Builder allow you to amass wealth if you play into what allows it to happen.   wink

No one likes to continually go broke.. so since city building is the main focus..you got to have the cash to proceed.   Smiley Blink

I believe Patrician was the one that threw me into the nut house last time.  Isn't that the one where you have to send your ships around to the different ports to sell goods that you bought at other ports for less?  Always seemed to me that I was never given all the information they should have given me and it was an exercise in frustration having to sail my ships around trying to find a port where I'd actually make a profit in selling the goods.  Or am I thinking of another game all together?

I split this topic into a new one as I thought finding games that challenge our financial side of city building might prove to be an interesting topic to discuss.

Well..that is PART of the equation.  It is sort of like the Tablet deal ..you have to know what Can be sold for how much.. and the real stickler is .the prices is constantly changing.  So you have to prepare for the worse case scenario.. plan B..C or you will certainly be frustrated.  pat and I loved the micromanagement.. it's a game you cannot learn in a couple of hours for sure.   Agreed Happy

Oh! I see  Oh my... be careful kat...CB..didn't take very well to Port Royale..at all, at least from previous discussions I had with him.  I have both the Original and PR II.. these games will drive most players nuts.. as they require so much tediousness and patience just to get a foothold in the game.  The game I was speaking of is Patrician..a title I've had since it was conceived.. it is hands down the best Trade Sim I've played..PLUS I loved the multiplayer..probably the only one I ever spent so much time it..  and the reason I set up a LAN room here at home.  Though we play the Anno's and a few others..Patrician was the most fun.

This may sound strange..but I've purchased several "extra" copies of this Title..as I figure I'll always play it.   The game PLAY is why I play..2D graphics are not a factor as there's so much depth of play to deal with..not much time to go on a graphical sight seeing journey..   wink

I just looked through my game catalog (gosh it's nice having it all organized now and I can just look it up in the database) and I've got one listed as Patrician 3 so I guess I've atleast tried it but likely didn't much care for it, it was probably and still probably is too hard core for me even though I enjoy the whole trading thing in games and the fiscal things, I also like to have all the necessary information to make wise judgements in a game wink

wink  Yep..CB..Patrician is about as hardcore as they come.. the manual is like an encyclopedia..plus I've amassed a notebook full of game data, strategies and summaries pertaining to the game.  I do this with all the games I play regularly..and I've played Patrician for many years now.

I certainly understand why this game might not appeal to players who like a great visual experience..intuitive UI and things to do that don't require a pocket calculator to always be handy.   wink

I know you like SimCity 4.. I actually have quite a time with it.. the City growth is so linear you are behind the eight ball most of the time.  I've managed to have a few Large Cities in that game.. which is more than I can say for another SimCity title.   Laughing

Hope you had a restful weekend.. I've played about three hours of Caesar IV this evening, just so to refresh my "game sense' a bit ..and enjoyed myself with Londinium..   three hostile Cities.. Yikes!!!  Sticking Tongue Out
