Cats are... cats! I don't like 'em! I find 'em annoying. They're needy when they want attention, and indignant when they don't. Some are handsome, but most are just plain..... cats!

Smiley Blink You might be surprised, Lengo...I have found that male and female cats can be very different, in nature.  I prefer male cats because they are much more "laid-back" and "straightforward"...female cats seem to be much more "prissy" and "illusive".

Like all animals, they tend to be a reflection of their owner.  I think one of the reasons why my son is like he is, is because I'm really a dog person.  I've literally raised him like a dog.

Just food for thought.  wink

Jessica is really sort of the exception to the dalmatians, she's never really been a high energy dog.  Unlike almost all other dals that weve come across she seems much more content to lie in front of the fireplace keeping warm then she does to go out running around.  Even when she was younger she was like that.  But tey are like people, some are more energetic then others.

Just thought you might enjoy a couple of pics...The Dalmation and The Dalmation Wanna-Be!  Laughing Laughing

Dalmations are just soo darn cute... Until you live with one for 10 years and all your white clothes are covered in black hair and all your black clothes are covered in white hair.  When I worked full time our "uniform" consisted of white dress shirts and black dress slacks, well you can imagine.....

Hello and Welcome  That's exactly right, CB....NO ANIMAL sheds like a Dalmation.  When living with my parents (abeit briefly), Abby had her favorite chair.  No matter how much work my mother did on that chair, she was still finding hair after two years!  Agreed Happy

That's a major advantage of a poodle...they just don't shed as much as most breeds. wink

As Samantha says, we'll still be finding her hair until the day we die.  It won't matter that we'll move 20 times over the course of our lives, it's quite likely that we'll be buried with some amount of dalmation hair.  For those that don't know, Dalmations shed literally 365 days a year, yes that's right, some dogs have a bi annual shedding period, but dalmations shed and grow their coat every single day of the year.  Poodles on the other hand do in fact shed (many people think otherwise) but their hair is so much like human hair that the rest of the live hair holds the dead shedded hair in place so it doesn't come out of the coat unless you brush it out.  Poodles are also as close to hypo-allergenic as you can get with a dog, and it is why they are using them in mixed breeds like the labradoodle, and the goldendoodle, so that they have the hair qualities of the poodle for people that are sensitive to dogs but have the "working" qualities of the labrador or golden retriever and are now considered "fashionable" dogs but were originally designed to be working dogs for the handicaped.

I know it sounds terribly stuck up, but to me the labradoodle and goldendoodle are just muts, even though I think the owners of one of the breeds finally got the AKC to recognize one of the breeds last year or the year before as an offically sanctioned registered AKC dog now.

Agreed Happy I lke the dalmation wanna be! Now, that's my kinda dog!

Quote
You might be surprised, Lengo... ..... I've literally raised him like a dog.

I had a cat once. His name was Boots or Butch, either one worked. My wife called him Boots. Me and my college buddies called him Butch. He was the smartest cat ever! When my wife and I went to the pool, he'd follow. Then he'd sit at the table where we and our freinds always gathered, just long enough to say hi to everybody, then go his own way. He'd sit on top the wood fences and look down at the dogs. When it was time to leave, one sharp whistle was all it took to get him to follow us home. He'd also play fetch. He liked to wrestle rough too. He was not allowed in the kitchen, and learned to respect the boundary.

Butch was fearless (and foolish). You will find the following hard to believe, but I assure you it's true.

At about 3 months old, he did what other kittens do. He'd run around the rooms, bouncing off the walls, careening this way and that, like he was some super hero. One morning, upon waking, I did my usual thing -- get a coup of coffee, sit on the bed by the open bedroom, and have a cigarette and TRY to wake up. We lived in a second floor apartment, and this bedroom window faces the parking lot/driveway. Well, one morning he came tearing into the room. He bounced off the wall, then off another, then onto the bed, then squarely -- all four paws-- onto the window screen. The screen popped out and 'glided' like a flying rug. Erm... not really glided, more like fell, but it didn't tumble. He rode this thing like a surfboard. It landed on the windshield of a passing car which screeched to a halt, then made a perfect four point landing on the pavement on the other side of the car. I ran downstairs in my boxers in horror but laughing. When I got to him, the car was still sitting there, the driver completely dazed. The lady in the passengers seat looked like she'd had a heart attack, and her husband was totally dumbstruck! When I got to the other side of the car, there was Butch, his claws still firmly gripping the screen. He looked up at me in both horror and delight, as if he was saying "SHEESH! Scared the sh*t outta me! Boy! That was fun!"

I had to pry his claws outta the screen in my underwear in front of these two people. Their horrified looks turned into dirty looks, but by that time I was laughing too, and OH SO PROUD of my rocknroll kitty!  Needless to say, Butch continued playing his version of superhero, but he never touched that screen again!  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Butch died at the hands of some mean dog at about 1 year later.  We found him with slobber all over him, like he'd been in a big dog's mouth and shaken.  Everybody that knew him was heartbroken. Everybody loved that cat! But nobody loved him more than I did, and when he died, it really broke my heart.  Crying

Since then I've had three cats. The first was a pair of kittens. They were dumber'n stumps! We named them George and Edna. This where I learned about getting an older cat and a younger one. Years later, after they passed, we got another. She was the biggest sissy I've ever seen, and scared of everything! And it was I who killed her. I accidently ran over her with my car when backing out of the garage. She rubbed up against the wheel to get petted. I STILL have not gotten over the guilt of that, and that was 22 years ago.  So, NO MORE CATS!   Disagreeing Madly

Very interesting story about your supercat Butch, Lengo.  Happy Dance
So you have loved cats in the past and it can happen again.  Agreed Happy
Since you can't have a dog why not get a cat for companionship, and if it's a calm cat it will help your nerves. It's documented that people in old folks homes (not that you're that old) do better if there is a pet on the premises.
You can avoid your former mishaps but keeping it inside all the time. No big deal, cleaning a cat box.  Looking around cautiously

Or you spend the big dough and buy one of the self cleaning cat boxes.  They have a seeing eye and once they sence the cat is not in the box, they rake up the poop and solidified pee into a pan and the box is all clean again.  They do this several times per hour I believe.  Or you just train the cat to use the regular household toilet.  I tried that but the cat that we had at the time prefered using the pile of laundry next to the hamper  Flaming Mad rather than the training lid on the toilet.

The Price is Right, with Dreeeeeewwww Caaaarrrreyyyyyy.

I don't think I've missed a TPIR show in about 3 years now, every morning like clockwork Im in front of the tele at 9am to watch Martha Stewart and get a good chuckle in before starting my day and end my Television watching for the day with The price is right.

I couldn't believe it, there was a fellow that bid $1.00 (ONE DOLLAR) on the showcase a couple of days ago and actually one.  I dont think he was really gambling on the other person going over, only that he wanted to bid $1.00 on something because someone told him when in doubt, only to bid $1.00
