my logo's attached!  Since it's a silver lappy, I'm asking them to paint the LCD and bezzle in the metalic gold used in the center orb here and the text, and blend/fade it into the dark blue/black of the sky/background of the logo....I'm also asking them to change their company logo to a gold and white version to put on the left of the logo to balance the moon on the right!

I'm so geeky!!!

pat!

My geekiness,...is that my monitor screen must be spotless.  I hate it when i see a streak if there is a black background, and if i see other monitors screen marked it's like  Crying..I know pathetic  Big Smiley Grin Laughing

Have fun with you new lappy Pat!!!!!!  It's always so exciting when one gets a new/upgraded pc.

I don't notice my monitor is dirty until I can't see the images anymore Laughing.  Where we live it's so dusty that I can dust off the television in the morning and by night there is a coat of dust on the screen again.  Fortunately the LCD monitor doesn't attract dust all that bad but it does get dusty after enough time.  Now I just want a new 26" monitor to replace this 22".  Samantha only has a 19" so she'd like to get a hold of this viewonic 22" so it shouldn't be a hard time convincing her to let me spend the money (when/if we ever have enough to spare) to buy a 26" monitor.  It would be so awsome to be able to play games on a 26" monitor.

Big Smiley Grin Laughing  HAR Har!!  I sure can understand that coming from a guy who has A "bug" in his Sig.   hehe  I wonder how many thumb prints on other peoples monitors.. that Thing has caused already...  Laughing

I'm quite happy with my 22" Samsung .. I don't want a larger Desk..this one is just right.
I do have two monitors in use already..my office looks like Control Central and has for a longtime now.  The only thing I want to renew is my chair..as I age I just seem to require more ...padding I guess.    Sticking Tongue Out

Big Smiley Grin Laughing  Yeah, you got to have a descent pc chair, otherwise the  muscles/bones start to moan.

Regarding desks, we bought a newish and much stronger desk for me a week back as I had  bought a 2nd hand black Dell trinitron, 21inch,  CRT (weighs a ton lol ) a few weeks ago for a whole $125.00 (cheeeeep) and my ole desk would rock  from side to side when our cat jumped on top of the monitor to snooze.  That is quite often her resting place when I am on the pc  and as I had visions of the monitor and desk crashing to the ground, wiping out my pc on the way down a newish desk was on the menu.
The new desk does not wobble and I have room..lots and lots of room!!!!!!!!!    Happy Dance
The things we do for our hobby   wink
The screenie is of my previous, but very reliable 19 inch Phillips monitor with my pc companion  on my old, not so strong,  slightly cramped desk.

Smiley Blink  As I surfed my way through a half dozen reviews.. this info seemed to be repetitive enough to post for pat!!'s consideration.

It deals with conclusive summary of performance testing by several reviewers.  They came up with this info...mostly for the OS implications.

Test results - in a nutshell

  • Comments
  • In Crysis, Windows XP 32-bit was faster than Vista in every situation by up to 20%.
  • Windows Vista 64-bit in DirectX 9 was about 5-10% faster than DirectX 10.
  • The 169.28 driver from laptopvideo2go was about the same speed as the stock driver. Using the stock drivers will be fine for now until better drivers for the 8800M GTX come out. Using Vista, the stock driver came out ahead most of the times.
  • Keep in mind that at these FPS rates, even 2-3 FPS can make a big difference. I would recommend Windows XP 32-bit for anyone looking to maximize their system on Crysis. We will see if this changes when SLI becomes available.
  • Unreal Tournament 3 ran the same on both Windows XP and Vista. At maxed details and max resolution, the FPS still hit 60. Very solid.
  • Call of Duty 4 ran almost as fast as UT3. I maxed all details and max resolution and got an average of 57 FPS. Enabling 4x anti-aliasing dropped this to 39 FPS. Whether or not you need anti-aliasing is always up in the air, personally I don't use it.
  • Call of Duty 4 in Windows XP ran 5-8% faster than Windows Vista.

I guess it is something to continue investigating.. to make sure what is the best case scenario as to OS application.   wink
